What's his cable size and length between battery and inverter? He may be experiencing voltage loss there too?

Re: Small battery bank running an inverter

Ok, my apologies to bad santa. He stepped into a minefield thread and was not aware that certain posters (not naming any) are now posting nonsense just to get a rise out of me.

Yes, I think we know who you are.

Bad Santa I apologise for my cryptic joke and can confirm that I did test to see if I have a faulty battery by running the inverter from each battery individually. Results were the same for each battery (utterly appalling) and the only load I could get them to run on their own was the milk frothier @450 watts.

Matt, all jokes aside, I would suggest that a third battery and a pair of short interconnect leads may be in your future. Given what you paid for the batteries you should be able to do so for around $200.00 and this may well extend the life of your existing pair and give you that much needed coffee as needed.
For what it is worth, I have been very happy with the supercharge batteries that I have.

Actually, according the the 30 amp limit suggested by the Supercharge technical guy I would need two more batteries.

But seriously, I posted a thread on my dilemma a few months back. The boat is on hold for the next three years. She's a total dock queen for that time and every cent I spend on batteries is kind of wasted. She'll get a lovely new bank when we are ready to set off cruising, probably Trojan T105s, but I will be looking very hard at current best practice for cruising boats at that time.

As it was I would much rather have installed a single 105AH battery to save money but I need two as a backup if my 24 volt engine batteries fail unexpectedly.

The coffee problem is really quite trivial. I have many other means of making coffee on board. None even remotely as convenient, but that, as they say, is a first world problem.

Back to the vampire deer thread.

Re: Small battery bank running an inverter

Have you considered lithium batteries? They are perfect for your situation. Small capacity but high current for short periods of time. You could save a lot of weight also.

Not sure, but this guy went fishing for a batray and got stung.
Karma in my opinion.

And no, this kind of "Cat" is not the feline kind, or the two-hulled version of a sailing boat. "Caterpillar" this time.
Again, instead of coming back, we are moving away from coffee and batteries.
Enough for me today, have to go to work now.

That's pretty much how one of our TV celebrity nature show guys, Steve Irwin, died. He got too close while filming one in the water and was stabbed in the heart by the sting on the tail.

The irony was that he made his name working with crocodiles and I think everyone would have expected a croc to get him.
