AC Current Draw

What is the running current draw for an average 16,000 BTU AC? I know it will vary somewhat but think its less than 1600W or so?

Re: AC current draw

My 16K Cruiser unit tends to draw about 12 amps in cooling mode at 120 volts. That includes the seawater pump. If voltage drops below 110 volts, which happens occasionally on holiday weekends, it can get to 15 amps.

Re: AC current draw

12A @120V sounds about right, but for a definitive answer go to Cruisair's web site and look up the spec sheet for a 16KBTU unit.

Re: AC current draw

so,
Assuming you had some kind of a capacitor bank for starting loads, a Honda 2000i would run a 16,000 BTU AC ? Or am I missing something?

Re: AC Current Draw

I don't know about all 16,000 BTU A/C's, but a Honda 2000i will run a Dometic Stowaway Turbo 16k BTU if you don't use it (the Honda) in Eco mode. If you want to use it in Eco mode you should probably use their "Smartstart" system which is a smart capacitor.
