You can build new ones in Lexan, at a fraction of the original cost. Buy a sheet, cut to shape, glue in place with Sika. Job done. Not opening, but 100% waterproof.

If you intend to 'go and see the world', and you have an interest in sailing, go to someplace where people are sailing and seeing the world. Hitch a ride. $2500 will not get you a suitable boat by itself. But it will get you an air ticket...

Excuse me but can't you guys read?

He said he has a boat already!

Don't let those Naysayers bring you down! Go for it!

No one here who read the story about the russian guy who built a boat on his Mothers balcony, some 4,5 meters long.... He's out there doing what most just dreams of.... last time I heard about hi he was halfway around the planet...

With all due respect. Proper diet (content, elements, calories value, etc.) is important. Whether the energy comes from meat or veggies is not. Just eat what you like and you will be fine, carnivorous or a tree hugger.

Obviously, he forgot to check in with CF before taking off and is doomed. Probably no re-entry kitty either.

Maybe not crystal clear, but I took it he's got this boat....

Well, yesterday I saw an add. A guy in Southern Sweden is giving away his wooden folkboat 'cause he hasn't got time to do the necessary work on it, and he wants a 'good home for his boat. Needs a bit of work for sure

But, no one can argue against it being a proven Blue Water boat,

I might whisper 'Jester' for instance...

anyone who feel inclined to, may have a go at it.

PM me for the webpage

Evgenij Gvozdev, the early boat Said. Later other boats. Not sure he was Russian, but Rusophile anyway. (I say this because most material comes from Dagestan State Pedagogical University).

I was asked about him a couple of times, maybe because my own boat not all that much bigger either ;-)

Easy to google out but mostly in Russian, so not very easy for an average Western readers.

Links for more info on Evgenij here:

Îäèí ìóäðåö â îäíîì òàçó... (in Russian),

http://gvozdev.iwt.ru/publish/gsd.pdf (some English text, mostly Russian).

I think he died in an accident on his later boat. Ironically, the later boat was bigger, "better" stronger ...

So whoever says can't be done must read this as well as the Sjo Ogg, Serge Testa and others.

The Voyage of Acrohc Australis (Testa's boat, in English, e.g.)

Can be done. Does not equal safe, comfortable or whatever. A must is a must and extreme challenges are extreme challenges. This kind of sailing IS NOT for an average domesticated cruiser.

Hugs to all ya,
b.

PS If you find the funny script above it is because your browser does not dig the cyryllic scripture. But the link will work fine.
