1990 Jeep Cherokee - Cruiser's Special!

Our re-fit is just about complete and we are selling off our workhorse Jeep Cherokee.

It is a 1990 Laredo 4-door model (cloth interior and full instruments), 4x4, 5-spd, straight 6-cylinder engine. It gets 22-23 mpg on the highway because of the 3.07 axle ratios. White with a gray interior.

The Cherokee is by no means perfect but is still OK looking and is SUPER reliable. Plus it holds a ton of stuff - 4 people with all the seats in, 2 people and lots of stuff with the rear seat removed, has a roof rack for even more big stuff and has front and rear trailer hitches for towing huge stuff!

Why carry wood, paint, fuel tanks, engines and whatever else in your Porsche or Merc and always be on the edge of a heart attack when something falls over or scrathes the paint? This Jeep can take it!

Or if you are cruising the East Coast and need a set of wheels to see the sights, do a major road trip or need a mobile storage locker, look no further!

Always passes yearly NC safety inspection. It's NOT a junker.

If you are really interested, send me a PM with your e-mail and I can send photos and a full description of it. No e-mail? Send me your phone number and we can talk.

I'm in New Bern,NC, which is close to the ICW, Oriental, Morehead City - and for a cheeseburger I'll deliver it to you at one of those spots.

I have it listed on Craigslist for $2350 - but for a fellow cruiser/yachtie the price is only $1995!

Re: 1990 Jeep Cherokee - Cruiser's Special!

Hi -

Mileage is: 226,700 Doesn't burn oil, still has 62-psi oil pressure at 1600-rpm.

One of the pictures I can send is of the instrument panel as it's rolling down the road at freeway speed and shows oil pressure, water temp, volts and low engine rpm 1800 to get 58-mph.

The engine's really are bullet-proof and we have taken good care of it.

Thanks for the interest.

Engines are great it's the chassis and everything else that rots away. To bad they made them without a full frame like the xj's. I've had many 4.0's and love em.

How is the chassis? I'd offer 1k maybe with it over 200k. When was the clutch replaced? With it being site unseen and I'm up in Jersey. Is it the HO motor?

Me too. Great vehicles and they look good too.

Still driving my 1989 XJ. Over the years its made its way from Texas to Florida to Guatemala and now to Panama.

Dropped a rebuilt block in it at 250K miles, even though the original engine was still running fine.

"Due to its toughness and reliability, the XJ was also selected in 2011 as one of "10 cars that refuse to die" by Kiplinger." From Wikipedia article on XJs.

Yeah that's right I get my j's all skewed. YJ wrangler I ment. Why could they not give the cherokee a full frame like the wrangler. Those sub frame were the weakest point of em.

Re: 1990 Jeep Cherokee - Cruiser's Special!

I loved my '93 XJ.

A 1990 would have been the non-HO version, with the renix injectors. Still a great vehicle.

The 4.0, although it sounds like a tractor, is a very very very good engine.
(I've owned 4 ZJs, 1 XJ, and 2 TJs. Guess I like jeeps.)

I'll buy it. All cash. With conditions:

-provide more information regarding condition of drive train, transfer case, electrical system, interior lighting, exterior lighting, exhaust system, brakes and tires.

-note any rust or major dents on panels, frame, underbody. Include information on door alignment.

-all you say is true and accurate.

If you are looking for 1st come, 1st served I may be out of the picture. I'm in California. I could fly into KRDU and meet you there. Of course we could work out mileage or steak dinner or something for your time and effort.

KBB says top range is $1777 for excellent condition. Note: that is for year 1994. And you haven't said what options are installed.

Yeah thats what I thought non-HO no biggie still a 4.0. Now correct me if im wrong but could I swap out the head on my 94 I believe and turn it to a HO. It just gets to breath a little better giving a little more pep to her. Them older motors I'm a little foggy on with what year it changed.

Had a customer with am guessing the year and say may be a 90 or 91, 2 door cherokee it finally rotted away with a strong motor at almost 400k. Got rid of it this past summer.

Re: 1990 Jeep Cherokee - Cruiser's Special!

I had a '99 TJ, and now I have a '04 WJ, both 4.0L. My WJ has 180,000 miles... I guess you could say she's just getting broken in

I'm actually going to be living aboard in Oriental, NC and would love to have this as a daily beater to have on hand, but I can't give into temptation! I need to save up as much as possible for the boat.

Best of luck with the sale.

Re: 1990 Jeep Cherokee - Cruiser's Special!

Hey I got a 99 TJ to! Well had till I was t boned by a illegal and the insurance company said it did not matter and said it was 100% my fault because I was turning left clearing the intersection after the light was red. The motor lives it's in a 98 tj pushing 200k on her.

I got some body parts still off of the 99. A hood, grill with the Ac condenser in it, half of a hard top, and a grey back seat in great condition I'm still trying to get rid of. You have the 99 so ya got the 19 gallon fuel tank. I don't know what else I still got laying around that would go with a 4.0 tj motor and drive train wise.

The hard top is a great bimi. It's cut right at the speaker bar. I like to ride with at least shade above me but those doors come off every year.

Oops you had.... my mistake. I don't know the newer ones don't do it for me. I like my TJ to much. The WJ's just did not grow on me.

OK, somebody must need it, so the price goes DOWN to meet your budget!

$1750

A pretty good deal for someone who needs a deluxe beater!
