S-63 Plug-in for ARMhf

The S-63 plug-in is available now for an additional architecture:

System requirements are OPCPN 4.2 and wxWidgets 3.
This is our standard S-63 PI install for RaspberyPi devices running Raspian(Jessie).

A reminder: same as for all the other architectures be aware that the encrypted chart sets you receive from your chart providers have to be present on the system when running the plug-in: so no swapped removable media please.

As there are is very big variety of ARM based systems our testing possibilities are limited: before purchasing an UserPermit or licensing charts please install the plug-in, run the integrated fingerprinter and observe if a .fpr file has been created successfully.

Tried the S-63 plugin from PPA. Fingerprinter seems to work on my Raspberry Pi 3.

Not yet tried how this behaves if a make a copy of my SD card.

How do I set this up on my Pi 3? Am I going to have to compile opencpn and the plugin from scratch? Tried the deb package but it doesn't show up in my plugins settings page.

I had the same problem. Installing the S-63 plugin with no result. Could not find the plugin.

Then looked with Synactic in the ppa and there was the S-63 plugin. And that one works.

I see the fingerprinter file appear. Got a user and install permit.

At the moment I don't have a S-63 enqrypted chart to test it.

But all seems to work.

if you don't want to license a cell you can always try the S-64 test set from the IHO - see the link at the help pages for the plug-in. But we have to confess that we did not test this one with the ARM/RasPi.

When licensing you can go for 3 month periods, bringing the bill down.

after you have downloaded and installed the S-63 plugin.

Open Opencpn and at the plugins you see the S-63 plugin. Install the plugin.

Then in Charts you see the S63

Then make a fingerprint. (Create System Identification file)

The generated fingerprint can be found in /home/pi/.opencpn/frr.........fpr

Go to the o-charts website. Buy a userpermit and then you get an install permit.

O-charts does the registration with the IHO (International Hydrographics Organisation.

Add the details to the S-63 plugin.

It is not yet clear how the ARM plugin reacts when making a copy of the SD card.

I'm still trying to get a plugin that will install. It doesn't show up on the opencpn plugins configuration section. What is the correct URL for the PPA? Even that confuses me, but then the rugby is on too...

S63 plugin is now available from both the beta and production PPAs, so if you have at least one of them configured in your system as described in Ubuntu PPA | Official OpenCPN Homepage, you simply install package opencpn-plugin-s63 and everything should just work - if it does not, we would like to see your logfile.

Yes, you have to pretend you are using Ubuntu Trusty instead of Debian Jessie, you do it by editing the file with the definition of the respective PPA after adding it to your system. A slightly outdated detailed description is for example at Adding PPA’s to Raspbian | kroq-gar78's webweb

Ok.
So it seems the s63 plugin installs in /usr/lib/opencpn but opencpn installs in /usr/local so I copied lib63_pi.so into /usr/local/lib/opencpn and the plugin shows up. I bet I could have spotted that earlier.

OpenCPN from the PPA packages installs to /usr, locally build software installs to /usr/local (standard location defined in LSB). As far as I can tell, there is now no reason not to use OpenCPN from the PPA even on ARM systems and avoid problems of this type.
