OpenCPN-Sail Racing Starting Line Guidance

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone of you had already thought about integrating a racing starting line guidance into OpenCPN.
Basically you synchronize a race timer with the official racecountdown then plot the starting line into OpenCPN. And when you combine the race timer with the virtual start line, the device measures your speed, bearing, and remaining time on the countdown timer. The program uses this data to indicate whether your boat will cross the start linebefore, after, or at the correct time to start the race.

Other nagivation systems like the Garmin 7400 already have this fancy (but handy) option and maybe some of you are working on this?

Cheers!

I'd definitely love to have that functionality. Although to be honest, I'd rather see a mobile app for OpenCPN that could display the start and race info. Bringing the computer display out to the cockpit is asking for trouble.

Up to now I've used iRegatta but since they will no longer be supporting Android I'm on the lookout for a replacement.

On my boat, there is a slab that rotates inside the cockpit so I can see the screen without having it outside.

This is going to work on a raspberry pi so if you guys know any application/programs that can be use as a timer that could be a good start..
Also any other open source regatta programs are welcome (some apps actually calculate when it is best to tack-or google "tacking master" to have a good understanding of what I am asking)

Cheers!
