is there a special reason to use the Furuno converter?
From the documentation this is just an USB -- serial adapter.
With the special point that it is galvanic separated/opto-coupled.

Where do the GPS data come from? As Gerhard said, there should be more GPS NMEA sentences, not just RMC. GLL and GSV, perhaps ZTA should show up.

Can you configure the device which generates the sentences? Update rate and sentences?
