Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

Dave

It looks like I opened a can of worms with my request for stricter interpretation of the Geodetic Datum on kap charts. :-)

We just have to work through the alternatives and get rid of real garbage like "Undetermined" and "Local" and "UNKNOWN"
The GD=UNKNOWN was recommended in the NGA project (by me) where there was no way of knowing the datum.
As already has been mentioned, it's worth discussing how to handle these charts, that probably are OK for traditional navigation, but dangerous together with a GPS.

Checking my earlier list of rejected European datums against georef.cpp and this page NGA: Europe Datums Table and wikipedia I conclude that

18:41:37 CET: Chart datum {EUROPEAN DATUM 1950} invalid on chart
is just another name for
{ "European 1950", 14, -87, -98, -121 }, // 28

18:41:38 CET: Chart datum {Ord Surv of Gr Britain 1936} invalid on chart is just another name for
{ "Ord Srvy Grt Britn", 0, 375, -111, 431 }, // 76

18:42:34 CET: Chart datum {European 1950 (Norway Finland)} invalid on chart is just another name for
"European 1950", 14, -87, -98, -121 }, // 28

18:42:57 CET: Chart datum {ED50} invalid on chart is just another name for
"European 1950", 14, -87, -98, -121 }, // 28

18:42:35 CET: Chart datum {RT90 (Sweden)} invalid on chart s just another name for
{ "RT 90", 3, 498, -36, 568 }, // 86

The line
18:42:24 CET: Chart datum {Monte Mario 1940} invalid on chart
Checking this site Supported Datums
a line like
{ "Monte Mario 1940", 14, -104, -49, 10 },
could be worth testing.

I think that the datums in red above could just be added to O:s list.

Thomas..
Thanks, I do agree. And, still, for the RT90 the supposed GPS failure is not that critical since these charts are only big scale overviews where the "Owerzoom" and blurs are obvious in case of a very close view.

Folks...

Re:
"couldn't create crash report directory"

Sigh....Windows protection/permissions strikes again.

There is no short term workaround for this.
We will have a new RC tomorrow.

"The GD=UNKNOWN was recommended in the NGA project (by me) where there was no way of knowing the datum."

When I read Cagney's post, I was taking a breather from replacing GD=unknown with GD=WGS84 for the few scores of NGA project charts I use as very small scale background charts...
I like them better than CM93s at these scales as they clearly show offshore dangers (remember Vestas' grounding ?)
No risk when overzooming: I use the fogging feature
And I could not care less for datum disprepancies at these scales.

3.3.2430, W7 w and w/o OpenGL:

- rendering of ownship icon

Seems to me bigger now, or better the minimum size increased.
Boat will not fit into the slip any longer...

Gilletarom...

re:
"5. Dasboard: Preferences are displayed in English, as if the language file in French was not taken into account. And it seems to me that a long time it is.

Grib plugin: Same problem, it is in English, in preferences and in the main window too.

Dasboard and Grib: There are just few words in French. Probably because these words are common to the main language file O."

I cannot produce this problem on Win7 starter, Asus eeepc.

1. I remove all trace of OCPN from the machine.
2. I start the installer, request French language.
3. I finish installer OK
4. I run OCPN. All is in French, OK
5. I activate Grib and Dashboard
6. Grib and Dashboard are both in French, OK.

Is your situation different?

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

Dave...

Size is on "Auto" and correctly discovered in log-file.

Switching between OpenGL On/Off will trigger a (correct) log entry.
However I see always twin entries of "Detected display size: 309 mm"
(two times the same message).

...how are you doing in the Opencpn log with these? I found replacing UNKNOWN with WGS84 might show as an error there..per difference in number of characters . I used bsbfix where this occurred.

Not everything was done correctly initially ... and the project was not allowed to finish. The geodetic datum may not appear on the chart, but I'm convinced that a chart in IHO's international series from 1996, it looks like INT 11, is using WGS84.
So ... I think you are running zero risk in your change.

Happy
I always use bsbfix after editing in a kap-header.

Understood now - not a bug:
one has to adjust the "Minimum screen size" of the ownership icon as it is taken now strictly according to the real scale.

Before the 15mm indicated in the settings were drawn as about 10mm.
And 10mm in the settings brings me back to the former situation.
Lesson learned...
