Re: OpenCPN General

Hello folks, in a previous post i asked for help about installing Opencpn o Ubuntu 14.04

I wass in the wrong thread so i do not know where it is now... But here's an update.

After reading Configuring Ubuntu PPA | Official OpenCPN Homepage i did nearly everthing, I am stock at the APT line input. I entered what is on the screen so ppapencpn/opencpn Then for a very short moment i saw the icon named Progress... But i never saw the orange box with the install link. What should I do?

Thanks

Kona...
I'm not at all sure I understand what your problem might be or if there actually is any, so just the obvious. The "orange box" does not appear "automatically" - You have to fill "opencpn" in the search field for the Software Manager and install it.

Re: OpenCPN General

Hi y'all. I just today downloaded OpenCPN 4, and an old copy of Explorer charts. That all works fine Then I downloaded the GoodAnchorage plugin. I followed directions, and when I double clicked the screen the first time after installing, it worked just fine. Gave me several user input anchorages in my area. But then when I moved to another area, the GoodAnchorage locations disappeared, and clicking on their icon, rebooting, etc doesn't affect it. I have their icon on the toolbar, but I just get a momentary screen flicker kind of thing when I click it. I don't get the prompt for user name and password.

Did I do something wrong?

Re: OpenCPN General

looking for an assist. I lost an Internet bookmark I had for a 5 or 6" touchscreen monitor that was around $400.

Intent is to replace my Garmin 440 with a NUC or efficient laptop and the on deck monitor. Since this is a 33' boat the monitor needs to be at least splash resistant and 700(?) nit or brighter.

Thanks for any insight.

Programm Crash when

Dear Open CPN developers & users,

I am fairly new user of Open CPN and just bumped into a major problem which I want to share with you to possibly avoid further issues:

The Software Open CPN crashed badly after I tried to change the format settings of the position display options in the options window under the tab "Oberfläche".
The crash of the program was so bad that neither interaction with the computer worked any more - no mouse, no Ctrl. + Alt + Del., no power switch - nothing but to unplug the power source of the computer.

I use Open CPN 3.2.0 in German
Win 7 64 Bit lenovo X301 in German
Navilock NL-402U
Please see the attached pictures

I can attach the Logfile if needed.

The computer runs very stable and did not crash in the last year and therefore is very unlikely to happen.

I am happy for the possibility to use such a great program - many thanks to all of you who contribute to make this happen!

Best greetings,
Uwe

Re: OpenCPN General

Uwe,

welcome onboard and sorry to hear from your problems.

Please go for the actual stable version 4.0.0
There has been a lot of things improved and added since the 3.2
And the developers will not look into the more than two years old version anymore.

The online manual refers to 4.0 as well

Re: OpenCPN General

Hi
I am new to the forum and also to OpenCPN. I have a beginner problem, as I cannot get the S-63 Plugin to work. The purchase has been made and the down load as well.
In the plugin section I do not see the plugins I supposed to have, and in the chart section I do not have/see the S-63 maps section
I can open the South China Sea maps, however the purchased maps for Malaccal straits cannot be opened.
Can someone please point me to the right place in the forum to find solutions/answers?
Thank you

Re: OpenCPN General

Hi Yuni,

welcome on board!

Did you go through the documentation from the o-charts download pages?
We recommend here especially the video which explains step by step how to install charts.

- Your installPermit is ok?
- When installing the cell permits, do you get any error messages in the log window of the plug-in?
- Same when installing charts - any error messages?
- Do the outlines of the S-63 charts show up?

Re: OpenCPN General

Yuni,

reading your post again one doubt:

which version of OCPN under which OS you are running?
You will need stable 4.0, not 3.2.x nor the actual beta series 4.1x

When you are saying you don't see any plug-ins: Grib and Dashboard have to be there.

Re: OpenCPN General

Hi Hubert
I have installed stable version 4.0. And you are right the 2 plugins you mentioned are there.
I did not note any error messages. However, my anti-virus has twice rejected a file before I disabled the anti-virus.
It migh be best if I un-install OpenCPN and start from Square 1. Thoughts?
Btw, the South China Sea chart is working, and I can access that file.
For the other charts the rectangles are not shown.
Thx
felix

Re: OpenCPN General

Felix,

then please download the PI installer again and run it. Be sure that it installs in the 4.0 directory.
While installing you might get the message that the Windows firewall is asking to allow OCPN to run some socket. You will need to allow this. The internal communication is via sockets.

Once installed you have to leave OCPN and restart it in order to see the plugin.
And then you should see as well the additional tabs at the vector chart settings.

I've seen that you uploaded the fingerprint in the meantime. So some progress?

The South China Sea charts show up because those are plain S-57 charts and do not require any additional plug-in
