Chart fonts have spacing problems with the default font, Droid sans mono, but they go away and display when you change Droid Serif font. Which is paradoxically not a Serif font.

The chart bar still has issues hiding under the android softkeys on my Moto Xoom, Android version 4.1.2. It shows about half way when the status bar is also enabled.

The Icon bar has 2 rows, with only the MOB icon on the second row which wastes lots of real estate. Is there a setting where I can fix that?

Video performance is acceptable, not fabulous, it is a 1 GB device. There are still some artifacts on zooming where it leaves previous blocks of video on the screen instead of chart. I can recognize pieces of the start-up animation in 1 inch square blocks for example.

Android 4.1.2

still no charts bar

Seems like the other 4.1.2. reported above.

screen measurement off by about 10 mm (153 vs 162)

on BSB night/day view does not work: only menu bar changes not the chart

Not sureI need that bar anyways but it is not there.

I will try out the 4.0. solution with hiding menu bar to get chart bar. Will report if anything new found.

Yes, there are troubles with ENC text display sizing and rendering. Not too worried about that right now.

I am more concerned about this:

Some Android V4.1 and V4.4 devices are not calculating the available application client area consistently.

1) On some 4.1 devices (Moto zoom, I think), the lower row which normally contains the android control buttons seems to be clipped by OCPN display.

2) On at least one android 4.4 (jp, looking at you here..) the "Action bar" is visible at the top of the screen, and is thus distorting the available space for OCPN to operate in. On other 4.4 devices, the Action bar is hidden by default and OA works properly.

So, what I need is this:

a) If you have display problems like I describe here, please raise your hand and tell me what android device/version you are using.

b) If you are using android 4.1 or 4.4, and are NOT experiencing display problems, please raise your hand and tell me about it.

We need to get this client display area geometry calculated correctly, or all the other internal geometry calculations will be in error. Interested devs may google on this issue and find that it is a real can of worms, difficult to get right in a simple game app, never mind a full function app like OA.

Am I the only one who does not get this program to run on an android?

HP Slate 7HD Android 4.2.2

The program installs no problem. Opens to the splash screen. Accept the terms, the world base map just shows up and then the program closes.

Here is some information on my tablet.

Model: TECLAST X10HD 3G. 10.1 '. GPS: Yes
Two OS: Android 4.4.4 KitKat and W 8.1.

With W 8.1 O 4.0 works correctly but not the GPS ....

Under Android, with the second alpha version 4.1.12:

1. Always problems with the zoom -. See screenshots 2, 3 and 4 here below.
2. With GPS: This seems to work but NMEA sentences display window is too small so incomprehensible.
3. If I click on the AIS icon in the toolbar, it will be replaced by a tiny icon.
4. The GPS status indicator and northern top right are tiny. Illegible.

Screen size in this case: the longer side of the screen, not the diagonal

Dave..

Samsung T3 (T310) with 4.4.2 reports screen size of 203mm. Correct is 172mm.
- No menu bar
- Chart bar yes
- Status bar yes, but illegible due to font size

OA run only in landscape mode, not in portrait - which is reasonable for me.
Would it be possible to force the orientation to the other mode? In case somebody wants to do so...

Calculated 162 actual about 153. Manual override here does not bring the bar up.

Xoom 10" tablet, Everest 3G, rooted
ROM: Custom Cyanagenmod 4.4.4
Android action bar displays properly with expanded desktop enabled or disabled.
O menu, chart bars display normally. GPS status icon normal.
Reported screen size 203 is fine.

Gilletarom's zoom issue is observed at small scales as shown in his screenshots but is transitory.

Yesterday, I try also to add chart using a external SD card. Impossible. Impossible to acces into de external SD card.

I took a look at your device specs. Memory should not be an issue, unless there are simply too many android programs that self-launch gobbling up ram.

Consider downloading 'Advanced Task Killer Free' from Google Play to discover which programs may be doing this. In the ATKF settings tick the level of kill at aggressive and select which programs you don't want running - then 'kill'.

Another program useful for controlling programs is App Quarantine. Just be careful which programs you quarrantine...

With progressive android versions you can never be sure when the developers are going to tighten up device security by limiting access to external storage...

If others with stock Kit Kat 4.4.4 are not experiencing this issue, then there's probably another explanation. Can you access the extsd card using an android file manager?
