Can someone tell me how to find just the S Pacific (NZ, Fiji, AU etc)?
For Rastercharts there is a utility caller Rastow Marinux Website , but I dont know if there is any similar for Vectot charts.

You have a good explanation of the CM93 structure in this page

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.412

Hi Dave

Back to the screen size problem (A 4.4 )

When what you named "Action bar" is visible, it contains the menu and in this configuration, the dialogs buttons, the chart and status bar are outside the screen.
But if I uncheck "show menu bar" , this bar disappears and everything becomes OK.
But in this case the menu is not available and I need it...

however, may be this could help to compute correctly available size ?

also there a rendering problem for the status bar

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.412

Hi
The system of cm93-2
CM93-version2 Charts are different from the S57 vector charts and has it's own data structure consisting of a number of folders and files.
To load these charts in OpenCPN just add the top directory to the list of "Active Chart Directories"
The CM93 top directory contains a number of (144) subdirectories named from
"00300000" to "04501020",
as well as six other files.
These sub directories each cover a geographical area of 40° x 40° .
The first four numbers describes the latitude and the last four, the longitude of the SW corner of the area covered.
The key to understanding the numbers is to realize that CM93's coordinate system
of the world starts at the South Pole or to be exact at lat -90° long 0° and from there
proceeds North a East with a factor of 3 for each degree of lat and long.
The tile 00300000 hence has the SW corner at lat from -90° + 0030:3 = -80° or 80°S to
and longitude 0°E , and covers the area from 80°S latitude to 40°S and from 0° longitude to 40°E.
Looking at 04501020 it brakes down to lat -90° + 0450:3 = 60° and long 1020:3 = 340° subtracting 360° results in -20° or 20°W. So we have he SW corner at 60°N and 20°W .
One more example, the tle 03900840 has the SW corner at 40°N and 80°W.

Each of these sub-directories in turn contains directories with the individual charts.
Ordered in scale from smallest to largest they are Z,A,B,C,D,E,F and G.
Where Z contains overview charts and G contains harbor plans. Note that, generally, not all of these are present in each subdirectory.

Z covers 40° x 40° deg area and OpenCPN typically uses 1:3.000.000 scale
A covers 20° x 20° deg area and OpenCPN typically uses 1:1.000.000 scale
B covers 10° x 10° deg area and OpenCPN typically uses 1:200.000 scale
down to
..
G covers 20' x 20' and OpenCPN typically uses 1:3500 scale.
The individual chart tiles in these directories have the same logic in the naming scheme as described above.

Fading chart outlines

Chart outlines are only displayed in the upper third of the display. When panning that area down, the chart outlines fade away. Anyone else seeing this?
Tested with Lake Erie ENCs on Nexus7 2013, Android 5.1

Your gps chip may not generate nmea data, outputting position information instead.

Solution is to download and use GPS Share WIFI from Google Play.

Note that 'GPS Share WIFI' does not need an external router or hot spot to work. Settings in GPS Share WIFI are WIFI off, network data off, device hot spot off. GPS Share settings - local port>default port #12776, Use WIFI hot - off.

OpenCPN settings: net, localhost, port 12776.

I will have a look. Should be possible for thumbdrive, but external GPS may be more problematic.

Thanks

I think I have seen Apps on Play that pick up ftdi and forward the stream to TCP.

Then AOCPN could pick up the stream from TCP.

But I am assuming ftdi which is not the case with USB gps, only with serial GPS (or any other data/sensor) connected via a USB/Serial adapter.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.412

Hello Dave,

I said a little more than that.
My tablet has 64 GB of internal memory, 32 GB of ROM and 32 GB of internal SD card. But I can not change this internal SD card. I can put files or folders.

I can also put an external SD card up to 32 GB. I can change at will this external card.

I put raster charts and CM93 on an external SD card. I have found that can access these charts with the android browser. But I can not use them with OpenCPN.

I copied my charts in the internal SD card. I can see them with the android browser and I can also use them with OpenCPN.

OpenCPN talking specifically.

I was able to display the bar charts and the status bar. Although these bars are very small. The status bar is unreadable. It is hard difficult to get reacting different maps as rectangles, my fingers are tros "large" relative to height of the bar charts

I could see the CM93 but there is a bug for displaying texts CM93.

For rasters, at times, the "built area" in red instead of the traditional brown. This is particularly true if the zoom is too large.

Best reghards . Gilletarom.

What is the name of the chart directories on the external SD card when you view them with android browser? Something like:

/mnt/extsd/....

or
/storage/SdCard/...

or something else?

Thanks

We need to get this client display area geometry calculated correctly, or all the other internal geometry calculations will be in error. Interested devs may google on this issue and find that it is a real can of worms, difficult to get right in a simple game app, never mind a full function app like OA.

Dave,

Thank you so much, I have been dying to see this happen!!!!

I installed O on my rooted Galaxy Note 2
Mod: GT-N7105
Android: V4.1.2
Disply size: 70x124mm (diag 141mm)

Found the GPS ok
No screen resolution was detected, default to 101.
I set manually to 124 and the screen changed to the attached (01)

Could not select the CM93 directory as the select or 'ok' button are not visible and I cannot drag the window. (attached 02)
pressed escape and it selected the directory.

Now I can see the boat and the charts (screenshot 03), however the display is still not optimized.

I do not have a physical A4.4 device, only an emulator which is unreliable.
So, I cannot exactly reproduce this behavior.

Questions:

1) Action bar contains which menu? The OCPN menu?
2) "uncheck show menu bar"... Do you mean in OCPN options screen?
3) Which menu is unavailable? and why do you need it?

I see no menu in your screen shots so far, so I am confused.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.412

Dave
Sorry for my bad explanations

When I said "show menu bar", I was speaking about O options dialog.
When checked, I have above the chart a bar containing on the left the O icon and on the right three points vertical arranged.
This is, I think a standard look for menu in android - at least on my device. When I click on theses points I get the O menu.( see shot)
When unchecked this bar is no longer visible.( see shot)
Why I need the menu? Because the tool bar icons take half of the screen so I hide all and use menu instead.

Regards
Jean Pierre
