For a calculated scale hand 1/9645, O shows a scale of 1/9600.

We round off the calculated scale for display, just to show a "nice" number without too many digits. We may assume an error of at most 1 % in the displayed value.

Hi

This version seems to not work with visit my harbour chart stick.

The vmh chart outlines dont show.

on a rebuild no change. with either gl enabled or not.

however they appear to build in the same way as usual and appear in charts / charts group

Have removed all plugins, along with trying the previous chart stick as well.

was working fine with the previous but 2 beta. havnt tried the others on this laptop.

The Horizontal Datum note in the raster image for each of these charts indicates that some of the chart has been corrected to WGS84, but...

NOAA's S57 versions of these charts are displayed in OpenCPN with WGS84 as the Datum in the chart information boxes. Unfortunately, Horizontal Datum notes and Source Diagrams are seldom (or never) included in vector charts.

I don't think the four charts noted above should delay the rollout of 4.0.

The NOAA Chart Reprojector outputs .KAP files with

GD=WGS_84

as its default.

AHA! welcome to the club! I have a hundred or more charts that O suddenly turned her nose up at. Used to be we could look at almost any old chart-porno together . But no longer...a few new baubles and suddenly she's too good for me...

While I am in there, could you give me a short list of the datums that you would like to see supported that are not currently allowed?

I confirm this.

The problem is the new critical check of the chart's declared datum.
We don't currently recognise "WGS_84."

This seems like a trivial point, since we accept "WGS84" and "WGS 84".

So I expect this will be a safe fix. I will test and report back.

Anybody got a Standard Horizon GX2200 VHF/AIS/GPS radio interfaced to OCPN for a test?

Secondary question:
Anyone tested Dashboard with a GPS that sends the $GPGSA or $GPGSV sentences?

I suspect a problem with Dashboard for this radio and some configuration, and maybe for these sentences in some other specific cases.

But it may be very config specific. I regularly run with GPGSV, and have no problem, for instance.

I don't have a radio that reports NMEA data, but I have a Garmin GPS 76 that reports GPGSA and GPGSV. Dashboard "GPS in view" reports 12, and "GPS Status" shows the position diagram of the sats and the signal histogram. I am running 3.3.2424 on a Windows 8.1 (64 bit, dual core Pentium) Toshiba Satellite C55A. This configuration seems to be working well.

DON't include NAD27!!! It's strange but it's true.
I've tried your "NAD27 Canada" and it DOUBLED the correction to lat/long...that is,yours, plus the chart's built-in actual refs and plys that have shifted the chart to NAD83(so close to WGS84).,

And, it'll be no suprise to you that I liked it when O opened unrecognized charts as WGS84.
MAYBE on charts she don't like, she could replace popup info on the chartbar with skull and crossbones ...something that doesn't actually interfere with the charts showing on the screen...or maybe disable quilting on them so they don't get mixed with good ones unless the usr loads them on purpose.

I don't know how desperate people are out there but if somebody offered me Captain Cook's bsb's I'd be loadin' em into O to see them, whatever datum he used. O can help comparing iffy or homemade charts with known good charts using marks/wpts that appear on both.

Withall, it's no big deal personally. It took me 20 minutes to batch the not-seen NAD27 headers as NAD83 for O-she's worth it. But my chart folder is staring to look too much like my boat...irish pennants!

Added: maybe a skull and crossbones icon on the unrecognized chart's button on the chartbar, like TM and polyconics have their icon...? But that's a lot to do when you're busy trying to finalize 4.0

All good points. I think we need to talk about this again after O4 ships.

cagney's point, that started this whole exercise, was this:

We should do, by default, the conservative and safe thing. And that thing is to not load charts that O thinks are suspicious in any way. Bad datum, funny georef, etc. Sort of like AntiVirus software....

But like AV software, maybe we need some kind of "exception" process. More User Interface stuff, sigh... And lots of folks grumble about their AV.

Anyway, for now I have added "WGS_84" and "WGS-84" to the list as aliases for "WGS84". So now all modern charts will load without complaint.

My GX2150 works fine sending AIS, but the GPS is an external Garmin 18xLVC which sends GPGSA and GPGSV to the radio. This is different from the internal GX2200 GPS. My radio is not a repeater for the external GPS sentences. Instead, I split the 18xLVC NMEA wires between the radio and my Bluetooth transmitter, which in turns broadcasts the GPS to the tablet (as you may recall). O has never had a problem with my GPGSA and/or GPGSV signals.

You might want to download the GX2200 manual from the SH site. Output of GPS NMEA sentences is turned off by default, and must be manually turned on through radio setup. This process is described in section 15.11 on p. 125.
