Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

Heap Corruption Detected from pan & zoom 13214_1.kap
around Mystic, CT 41 21E, 71 58 W
please see attached. Using Debug of
* master feb04fd Merge pull request #420 from did-g/chartdlrd

I am able to hit Continue, and Ignore and the program seems to continue to Debug however in release version, Opencpn totally freezes or it just disappears from the screen completely...gone with the wind.

I hope this helps. If there is some other info needed please advise.

DanT the red outlines of NOAA RNC USCG01 just below NYC do not show the red radiused lines just to the west of the shipping routes. Mine look about normal.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

Heap corruption occurring when zoom in on other charts. I do not know if this is something particular to my computer or something I am unknowingly doing, but since Tdan had similar issues, I am going to put it into tracker.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

Hi Dave et al,

Having a bit of trouble with latest Beta installed over 3.2.x on W10.

Running in any compatibility mode or as Administrator has no effect and they all show the same error on start.

Any thoughts? thx

Never seen this one. Can you try a side-by-side install without any external plugins?

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

Yes, I'll try tomorrow evening. It's weird. I ran the installer and at the end of the install, I chose to 'run OpenCPN' and it ran fine although it reported some out of date plugins. However it would not restart and gave the reported error.

I'll delete all the plugins and try again.

Anything special to remove the plugins?

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

jram...
The problem obviously seems to be the cURL library which we now bundle with the core application but before, in it's older version, has been bundled with some of the plugins.
It should resolve itself once all the plugins are ported to the new core API for downloads and repackaged, but I need some time to do it. Now that I know it causes problems to someone, it got higher priority, but still won't be done tomorrow.

Thanks Pavel, I'll see if I can narrow it down to a particular plugin.

Perhaps you could discover what chart that is, ....

If I understand correctly, that chart shows well in O4?

Of course, there may be other "bad" NV charts in 4.1.1025 as well. ...

Thanks
Dave
Using the commande line "/unit_test_1", with 411025, I see that there is 1 or 2 chart(s) not correctly displayed in this pack of NV-charts. I will continue my research.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

Dave, after reseach, there are two bad charts: N00L1-1.EAP and N00L1-2.EAP.

These two charts are bad for 04 and for O411025.

I remembered having had display galleys with some charts at the beginning of their settlement in May 2015 I then received monthly updates and I had made the updates. While browsing in this area, in July, August and September, I have no recollection of charts that were not displayed correctly.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

Gilletarom...

The current 4.1.1022 and your 4.1.1025 has some trouble with crash reporting. I have fixed the problems internally, and waiting for the next Beta to publish the corrections.

Meanwhile, the present focus is to make sure we do not crash, in any mode. This applies even if the chart data is malformed, such as you have discovered.

Unfortunately, NV charts are encrypted, so there is no way for me to inspect your "bad" charts directly. We must use an indirect way. I'm working on that now.

Thanks
Dave

In my recent NOAA download I see no PLY points either, so this is clearly a bad chart.

Is the chart the same on both machines you are testing?

Dave
Dave,

This is a real mystery. I have 2 machines with identical opencpn.exe and charts. My Windows 7 laptop displays the attached "error" in drawing RNC chart boundaries. My Windows 10 laptop does not have this problem. It happens with our without OpenGL. It is not the missing PLY problem I think. I happens with lots of charts and changes with zoom level.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

Dave,

Just a thought. but it is probably too late to add it to version 4.2. but who knows ...

To determine that they were defective charts in my NV-Verlag charts, I use the command line "/ unit-test-1".
But it's not really made for this. It is thanks to chance as I could determine the names of files.
It would be nice if the names of each chart was displayed somewhere on the screen and if you could stop and start, by one means or another, scrolling charts.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

I recently loaded a number of PI's. Some I tried, some I didn't; however when I tested some of the PI's I began to get system hangs. I tried uninstalling several PI's at time, but no joy. I finally noticed that the problem was related to the GE PI. I deleted it and the hangs stopped. There's nothing unusual in the log file.

As an aside, shouldn't the uninstall programs uninstall themselves?

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release

OK Pavel,

I deleted the contents of the plugins folder and did a reinstall. That allowed me to open OCPN. I disabled all plugins in the control panel.

I than started to rienstall plugins. The one that installs something that makes it cough is "squiddio_pi-0.5-win32". Again, deletion of the plugins folder content and a reinstall fixes it.

Thanks for your help!
