New plugin releases

Howdy...
As we have 3.2 out of the door, I'm preparing the new releases for a couple of plugins to address the issues that appeared since 3.0:

AIS Radar: The annoying crash on exit should be fixed and the code was synchronized with original author's changes.

Google Earth
: Debug logging messages are now turned off as no problems (and no feedback) appeared for a long time.

WMM
: Merged Sean's superb magnetic variation chart plotting code

The downloads are already available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/opencpnplugins/files/ but I would like to get some feedback from our experienced testers before updating the opencpn.org download page to these new versions - plan to do it tomorrow if no problems are found, so please test them if you can and let me know about any glitches you encounter. I'm especially interested in knowing if the i386 Linux versions work on anything older than Quantal (aka 12.11) and on another distributions than Ubuntu/Mint.
All the plugins should work equally well on OpenCPN 3.0.2 and 3.2.0

Plugin authors: Github deprecated the file download feature, so I created a new project on Sourceforge to host these files at https://sourceforge.net/projects/opencpnplugins/ - let me know if you want to host your downloads there and I will give you the necessary privileges (SF account needed).

We also need a Mac builder - I don't have this machine available, so until we find a volunteer to build the plugins, there simply can't be a Mac version although most of them should build and probably even work just fine...

Re: New plugin releases

Pavel..
WinXP, no OpenGL.
A limited desktop test, e.g. without live GPS.
AIS
Can't see live functions but opens and closes w.o fail.
G.E.
As earlier but without logbook flooding, thanks. One O. and Ge2Kap crash during .KAP creation while the switch from O/GE-Ge2Kap-O/GE but I think that's more due to my sometimes unstable PC-system than O/GE related. Three map creations before the crash and two after was performed w.o. problems. Nothing to see in log (-anymore). Last rows:

Re: New plugin releases

AIS seems to work fine, with Opencpn 3.2 (download, not compiled), Win7, Dell Laptop XPS15 using NavmonPC and ais file. Nice feature. Thank you.

WMM seems to work fine. I like the more portable less conspicuous version.

Opencpn 3.2 (download, not compiled), Win7, Dell Laptop XPS15 using NavmonPC and ais file. Nice feature. Thank you.

Re: New plugin releases

GE Plugin - Never used this. First started GE and turned off various layers, positioned GE to same location, zoomed in. Then started OpenCpn 3.2, no GE Icon even though GE plugin was on. Went to settings > plugins turned off GE plugin, then turned it on. Icon appears above chart. Turned on various settings in GE Plugin. Close settings. Click on GE Icon, Blank window pops up.

I wonder why GE is not showing up in window. What have I not done.
Thanks again for the plugin improvements.

Re: New plugin releases

Pavel..
AIS radar crash report:

Closure Pgm crash using "libaisradar_win32_pi17_v095_pi.dll"
WinXP, OCPN 3.2.0, No OpenGL.

Summing up:
When open and close OCPN with a deactivated AIS radar plugin it crash.
When open and close OCPN with a activated AIS radar plugin it won't crash, nor when deactivation occurs during the actual session.

Course of events:
1-Load OCPN with new AIS radar plugin. Not activated.
2-Shut OCPN down - Crash
3-Load OCPN without AIS radar plugin.
4-Shut OCPN down - Ends smoothly
- 1 - 4 Repeated some five times, same result.
-Load OCPN with new AIS radar plugin. Not activated.
-Activated AIS radar plugin
-Shut OCPN down - Ends smoothly
-Load OCPN with new AIS radar plugin. Activated.
-Deactivate new AIS radar plugin.
-Shut OCPN down - Ends smoothly
-Load OCPN with new AIS radar plugin. Not activated.
-Shut OCPN down - Crash
-Load OCPN without AIS radar plugin.
-Shut OCPN down - Ends smoothly
so on....

I havn't done any elimination tests to find dependencies to other plugins. Please request if that can help your bug tracing.

Logbook extract attached.

Don't start GE first. The plugin will start GE. I think it's always worked this way.

Re: New plugin releases

Thank you wdkester. Apparently I had to update GE, after two installs, turning off the new welcome screen in GE that was causing a problem and messing around between GE and Opencpn 3.2 it works now. Have not exercised it by "Save View" exporting to JPG, KML, GPX for Ge2Kap, KMZ for ImgKap. Has anyone? From reading other threads, cruisers have found this to be very useful. One cruiser thought it was confirmationally accurate for coralheads in a difficult situation, but I can't imagine how they'd have internet access at that moment too.

Should probably learn more about this plugin. Thanks.

Rick...
I've used it lot to make KAP files showing harbour maps were CM93 info is restricted. I manage to handle it after having read and carefully followed the Help file included in GE2KAP. Please give that manual a change. I'm sure it will solve all GE issues for you as well.

I might add that GE will run without WIFI. You would need to set GE cache to max and then visit all the problem areas to load the cache. Paul H. has a utility to follow a route in GE and thus load the cache. You can also save and restore cache files manually. Two years ago I had trouble with pre-loading cache, so I used GE2KAP to make chartlets of may areas in Belize. This seems to be the safest thing to do
