Dealing with charts - deleting certain ones

I must be missing something, probably simple!
How do you deal with your chart library?
I'd like to delete some but not all for certain areas.
So far I've been looking at the chart name in the main view, going to my charts folder and deleting that specific chart then rebuilding the chart database and repeating this over and over!
I want to remove large scale charts from my Florida library but keep the small scale charts.
Has to be an easier way that I'm missing.
I've found plenty of info about installing charts but none on an easy way to delete certain ones.
Thanks for any help. A link is fine you don't have to type.
Cheers

Siberianhusky,

You could make a list of all charts that you want to delete. Then delete all--or many--unwanted charts at one time. After deleting the batch of charts, update the chart database in OpenCPN.

You can get a chart catalog from NOAA (on paper from a chart sales agent or as a .pdf online). The catalog lists all of the charts by number, name and scale. This might help you make the list of charts you don't want.

Most OpenCPN users don't have problems with having extra charts on the computer because storage is very cheap, and their time can be better used for other things. The extra charts only slow the program while it is updating the chart database or building the OpenGL texture cache.

Thanks, not what I was hoping for though.
Makes sense for some, Heading to the PNW, thought I'd clean up the chart folder and get rid of areas I know I won't be in for a long time if ever again, turned out to be more complex than I though.
I kind of look at it like deleting music or pictures I don't want anymore. Why bloat up the system.

My World charts and program package is a total of only 2270kb.. less than 0.5% max of my HD memory.
What are you using your charts on..??

Why not just make another folder and take it out of the main chart folder? No matter what you want, you have do the work, since only YOU know what YOU want to have.

Re: Dealing with charts - deleting certain ones

OpenCPN doesn't delete charts.
Charts are usually numbered and this is your easiest guide to sort into folders and sub-folders I give these folders names too...as in Florida is 11xxx and US west coast is 18xxx.
Other places use numbers too. The system can be different but these folks are all pretty organized.
Small scale charts can have lots of zeros or few digits. Large scale charts have more numbers.
example:Pacific Coast NOAA Nautical Charts

OpenCPN won't delete charts but can hide charts.

My chart folder is 829Mb! Must have something really messed up. This is nowhere near world wide coverage.
Oh well nothing ventured nothing gained, didn't cost me a thing to download Opencpn, no big deal if I remove it.
Thanks for the info
Cheers.

If you want to delete RASTER charts, you can use a script called RASTOW
Marinux Website to sort charts and then delete the unwanted charts.

RASTOW (raster-stow contraction) classify your raster charts collection (*.kap files) creating 96 subdirectories divided by timezone (15° steps, without any country exception), north and south, above and below 45° of latitude.
