Re: autopilot route plugin

I'd like to test this plugin. I have a pypilot and a raymarine st2000+ available for it. Seeing that video of it was the reason I built a pypilot in the first place. I would like to test whether it behaves better than the XTE based algorithms. If it does, I think it's about time to make it part of the standard distribution, so people can use it instead of discussing it on forums ;-)

Until now, I compile from source, but I ran into opencpn segmentation faults at various points, and got behaviour I did not understand, which made me not want to run it on the boat. Since the last try, I get some more results, but still segmentation faults. If we can get that fixed first, I can put it on the boat and start using it. Where can I submit detailed test results? Is github all right?

Kind regards,

-

Re: autopilot route plugin

the best option is to raise a github issue. If you can provide a backtrace from the debugger it would be most helpful if a crash occurs. Also describing what settings, and making trying mercator vs great circle calculations will prevent the crash in some cases.

I realize there are bugs and I just don't have enough time to work on everything as well as develop my efficienct $25 wind turbine that can produce more than 100 watts which is what has my attention at the moment.

Ok I'll raise them in github then. What debugger you mean?

Re: autopilot route plugin

Have you tried one of these? The files beginning with "opencpn" are exe, deb and pkg files

Re: autopilot route plugin

No, I had already compiled from github source. I saw the link but assumed this is the underlying store for some automated package manager I was not aware of.

Re: autopilot route plugin

I assume you read this.

The interface does not have the normal menu, just preferences. If you are raspberry pi you need one of these deb files

https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn/repos...ges/?q=opencpn
Hoover to see full file name, probably the first two files showing.

raspian-armhf-buster v0.4.0.17

raspian-armhf-stretch v0...4.0.17

I don't know which one as I do not know raspberry. Good luck. Would like to know how it goes.

Re: autopilot route plugin

Yes, I read this thread and another 13-page one on the subject ;-) In the meantime, I located the right tarball in your link but it appears of minor difference. I'll continue with raising my issues in github. Will keep you posted.

Thx,

Rick, have you published the plugin for Plugin Manager? I can't see it in either master or beta.

Re: autopilot route plugin

It has not been updated for Plugin Manager yet. I'll get to it eventually, but I am involved in watchdog right now.

Re: autopilot route plugin

This plugin Autopilot_route by Sean, has been updated and is in PIM. I have not tested it and do not know if it is working. Would be interested in any results.

Re: autopilot route plugin

I’ve downloaded and installed from PIM URL. How can I use it? I can see its settings in plugin settings. There is no icon on plugins toolbar to activate/deactivate it. If I enable it what happens? What does it do? There is no help page in plugin settings either.

Re: autopilot route plugin

For using the plugin, check out this movie https://youtu.be/5TtgoWs6RhU?t=62 at 1:02; the movie was to prove something else but this part might answer your question.

In short, just activate a route in openCPN and it starts generating the smooth APB messages.

I have tested it last year and documented my issues in github, some of which prevented me from using this plugin on the boat. As far as I can see these issues have not been resolved.

At the moment I am having very good results with the standard, XTE-based route facility that is default in OpenCPN, in conjunction with pypilot. I have no reason to pursue this plugin for the time being.

Re: autopilot route plugin

This plugin provides using several different calcs for routing.

1create route.
2 activate a serial connection.
3 activate the plugin
4 activate the route.
5 note the smoothed ecap data stream

I need to find a way to test this when not on the boat.

Others please report.
