AIS Target Sizes

I have just replaced my PC and find that the Own Sip Icon and AIS target (triangles) are now very small.

I have experimented with the various options in setting. Default, Bitmap, Vector.

All other sizes appear to be OK text sizes etc.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: AIS Target Sizes

Peter,

did you try "ship scale factor" from Options|UserInterface?

Hi Hubert, yes tried that but even at +5 they are still pretty small. I am sure I didn't have to set this before.

I also noticed a difference between Class B and Class A icons has this changed recently, maybe the base icon sizes have also changed.

Re: AIS Target Sizes

And what about the "Allow attenuation of less critical targets .."?

The detected screen size is ok (in mm, horizontal)?

Yep is OK, adjusting it manually changes own ship icon size but not AIS target icons.

Re: AIS Target Sizes

Tupaia....

May we see a screen shot of ownship and AIS targets with sizing controls at default, and Settings->Display->Advanced->Screen width(mm) set correctly?

Thanks
Dave

OK sorry for the delay in replying I did some experimenting so as to give as much info as possible.

1. my monitor is 480 x 270mm Diag 550mm
2. Version 4.8.4
3. Screen resolution is set to 360 x 768 althouth the max resolution for the monitor is 1920 x 1080.
4. Win 7 Pro 64 bit

Set manual screen width to 480mm see "manual 480.jpg" no change in AIS targets (still too small) But you can see that the preditictor is now fat.

Messed around with screen width between 48 to 4800 (200, 500, 1600, 2000) then back to 480mm and eventually got AIS targets to be correct size (or at least what I have been used to). AIS size scaling set to 0 default and set screen to Auto. See "Auto width.JPG". The preditictor remains fat. See also "Range Rings.jpg" these are now also fat.

Set manual screen width to 480mm see "manual 480.jpg"

Did a new install 4.8.4 replacing all config files. "New Install Man 480 or Auto.JPG". The AIS Targets are now tiny again but Own Ship is correct size and predictor is also correct fine line.

The above is a summary many attempts at setting the manual width, too low a number would hang OCPN depending on the chart zoom in place at the time.

I also reloaded 4.8.2 and it produces the same results as 4.8.4.

I also set resolution to 1920 x 1080 and repeated tests, it is still the same.

I also tried Open GL on and off in both resolution settings and again gives same result.

Any more info I can give let me know.

Thanks Peter

Re: AIS Target Sizes

Dave

By setting the OwnShipCOGPreditorWidth=3 in .ini file resolves the issue.

I would suggest that in the Tools Menu either the apply button on the Display and or the Ships and or the Interface tabs or the OK button are not setting or resetting this parameter.

The various changes I had made seem to have set its value =14

The range rings maybe a red herring as I do not usually have these displayed so they may have always been fat.

Re: AIS Target Sizes

Peter...

Thanks for the shots.

On the first shot "Auto width", what is the automatically calculated screen width (before you have overridden to 480)?

Thanks

Re: AIS Target Sizes

Peter...

Let me try to state the problem again, to confirm my understanding.

1. The calculated screen size is wrong (1600 mm calculated, 480 actual).

2. If you override the size to 480 and set the OwnShipCOGPreditorWidth=3, then ownship and predictor are OK, but AIS targets are still very small.

OK?

Hi Dave, from a clean install replacing all config files the calculated screen size is 1600mm. The AIS targets are tiny.

Changing to manual 480mm the actual size does not immediately change it. You have to set User interface to +5 then back to 0 and exit and restart. Then set OwnShipCOGPreditorWidth=3 to make predictor thin again.

Give me a couple of days and I will see if I can recreate the exact process now I know what I am looking for.
