Re: In need of serious help please!

I know two people that used Pier 77 and neither were happy with the work. Also I didnt think they allowed ANY DIY.

$3500 from COLORADO to Galviston, $800 for crane in COLORADO to put on trailer(extra charge for spreader). $490 for travel lift both ways, $30 a day while on stands. looking into having him haul to Pensacola instead of Galvy for an extra $500.

Shop around for haulers as some have trailers capable of picking up your boat saving you the Crane service money. Get quotes.

I was quoted approximately that amount ($3800) for unstepping, loading, hauling, unloading, and re-stepping. Lake Texoma, Tx to Galveston, TX for a 2006 Hunter 35. Company used a trailer capable of loading and unloading on a boat ramp and both locations had suitable ramps. Trailer also equipped with mast crane. Those prices from CO to TX sound reasonable.
Prices to locations further east went up dramatically, permits/restricted routes/etc.

Actually if it were me I would find a trailer and haul it my self, but that’s just me.

If you have a CDL, ($6k in the US) and enough experience (usually 2yrs OTR) to get an insurance company to cover your personal semi-truck ($20k used) and a trailer capable of hauling a 32ft fixed keel vessel, by all means go for it. The trailer weight alone would max out the towing capacity of most 1ton sized pickups.

Are you 100% set on Sarasota? In St. Pete there are a number of liveaboard marinas and a few boat yards that would hire you. There's also some boat builders in the area like Catalina and Island Packet. You could also liveaboard in the gulfport mooring field.

I really think that would be a hassle and cost WAY more than what its costing now. Then I'd be stuck with a trailer that would be hard to sell.

Negative, pull out your wallet reply. I had a contractor haul my 64 ft steel hulled sailboat 45 miles on a trailer I built. 18 ft. beam and police escort. Cost-$1800.
To me a 32 ft. would be a piece of cake. But as I stated, that’s me. Just throwing out some ideas to consider. “ The mind is like a parachute, it must be open to function”.

That's amazing. I would have thought the steel and wheels alone for a trailer that sized would exceed $1800 by themselves.

If you have watched any of the YouTube videos SV Seeker you will understand we are cut from the same cloth. Making due with what is available. He is moving his 70+ foot boat using a semi truck axel, I did the same thing, $200 bucks and it laughed off the weight of my boat. I understand these type of endeavors are not for everyone but I do not know the capabilities of the OP or his resources. Like I said, but that’s me.

45 miles vs 1500 miles, lets be real here. My boat weighed in at 17,900 lbs when it was hauled from NJ. the hauler had a bad trip with three blowouts and he probably lost money. it would literally cost me three times what I'm paying to get hauled plus the stress...nope, nope and no thanks.

Don’t think they are the ones with the incorrect data but never the less, I am bowing out, I was just offering an out of the box suggestion.

Re: In need of serious help please!

Thank you all for your suggestions and advice!

This is what i have got planned as of this morning.

Boat will be hauled from CO. to Pensacola for $4,000. Anyone here in Pensacola? Still need to figure out where to overnight.
Crane in CO $800.
Shipyard in Pensacola $475 Lift, stands, splash. $34 a day in yard. 24 hr yard!!!
$90 boom + rigger fee(they won't let me rig my mast but I do have a two dollar bill to put under it!).

In yard-
Need to drop rudder(when I get craned in CO), fix crack, fair and paint, fix bearing and tube, reinstall when I get lifted.
Bottom paint.
Reinstall Radar, chart plotter, Tricolor, windex, etc.
Reinstall Dodger and Bimini.
Install solar panels and controller.
Install New batteries(two Renogy 100ah house and one dual marine starting batt)
Fill water tanks, fuel, polish fuel(I have a polishing system).
Tune standing rigging and re-rig my pro furl.
Rig running rigging and install sails(have new main, old main, 150 Genoa, 130,110 headsails & a asymmetrical spinnaker. Will be putting on the 130 jib.
Install new bilge pump and alarm.
Change out hose clamps and inspect thru hulls and valves.
Check for leaks once splashed.
Clean up and provision for trip.

Hope to do this list in six days.

I will be going to where Chotu's Marina is and get settled in!

I will be prepping the motor here in CO. I need to clean the heat exchanger, polish or get rid of old fuel, change oil and coolant, install new filters and impeller. The Yanmar 3gm I have has only 450 hrs on it so it should be good to go.

I have a friend coming down to drive my truck to my destination. also have a mate to join me for the trip.

Whew! Can't wait to sail again!
