Got a plastic classic?
Are you sailing, refitting or dreaming of a beautiful, older, boat from the years of CCA rule (and post CCA), hand laid-up hulls, long or early fin keels; you know, the boats some folks think we are crazy to spend so much on? Do you perk up when you hear names like Alberg, Rhodes, Morgan, Sparkman and Stephens, Tripp and others? Do you stop on listings of Cape Dories, Bristols, Columbias, Tartans, Morgans and Pearsons and others to see which year they are? Want to share tips on refitting, repairing and sailing these great boats? There's a social group for that. After tracking through a number of us posting here about our endeavors I thought we might do well to have a place where the info is gathered up and easier to find. Cheers!

Re: Got a plastic classic?
She's of the vintage but I've not found many Lancer yachts around. We are slowly bringing this beautiful 1978 model back to life.

Will be watching this thread! Is there a link for this group?
Ours is a Tripp design. Not a project boat, but lots of projects, for some reason...

Re: Got a plastic classic?
Our new to us C-50 is a project boat, structurally very sound, but lots of problems and safety issues. Right now she is tarped and on the hard up here in Michigan. We are stripping all the doors and drawers, about to remake the cockpit locker lids, new dorade boxes, and restore the galley table. This spring she will be moved to our house and my shop where the real work will begin. Rewire, repaint, cabinetry, cushions, and the list goes on...and on...

Re: Got a plastic classic?
Rhodes Reliant Yawl, launched July '65, re-launch June '94 after I gutted her and re-built a complete interior and removed the teak overlayed deck. Cheoy Lee hull # 1583. No mechanical fastenings in hull to deck joint. Original 18" epoxied tabbing at sheer line. 5/8" topside to 2 1/4" solid in bilge. Douglas fir spars. 23000 lbs. Wet, but can still outpoint many newer boats.

Re: Got a plastic classic?
We purchased a 28' Fisher catamaran for Michigan waters and marinas. We worked on bottom up to the water line (strip, fiberglass, epoxy, and bottom paint) then slapped paint on the sides from waterline up. Later we'll strip it back off and repair that portion........but we put it in the water so we can use it while restoring. Second photo has the color changes we want.

Thanks, she is a Beast. 40 foot long, 14 feet wide. I just love working on her. The engine room is a treat, full easy access to all areas and tons of space for anything you want to put in there. I am keeping a record of the refit on this site. Schucker refit
