The Robertson II grounding

The Robertson II was from Cowichan Bay. Grounded on rocks off of Saturna Island.

The “Robertson II”, a 130 foot wood sailboat was hard aground Minx Reef on the Navy Channel side of Winter Cove at Irish Bay near Saturna Island, BC
Anyone familiar with that location?

Looks like an area where you definitely don't want to fall asleep at the helm! Warning! Big Files Attached!

Yup, we have anchored in that little cove. Lotta power boats transit the cut there going east, which itself is tricky (slack high water the best). But once you clear the cut, it aint over. There are some nasty reefs on the outside there. Many rocks awash on the high high tides. Looks like that is what they got snagged on.

Were they entering or leaving Winter Cove via the eastern entrance, Boat Passage I think it is called, when they ran aground. That seems nuts for a boat that size? I've hiked out to the point just above this and wouldn't take my boat through it. Lots a current. lots of rocks, narrow -- plus you can go around and enter from the west side easily.
