Sounds a lot like the one in 2004 in Morecambe Bay, Lancashire where 21 Chinese cockle pickers were drowned by the rising tide. Occasionally walkers get stuck in quick-sand and get drowned too. 4m tides brings its own set of hazards.

Didn't see anything in Gord's translation about these people being from the city, only that they were university students. Do you have extra info? How do you know they weren't country bumpkins.

I mean, if you are going to make presumptions about the dead, why do you assume the are from the city and not the countryside?

Never saw a city that didn't have a slum, seems like plenty of poor people in every city I have ever been to. Let's just call them dumb rich kids.

At the end of the day they were probably just kids, the type of people who specialize in doing dumb things we would never consider ourselves. A tragic loss for their families, my heart goes out to them.

Life is a crap shoot. dumb people die and brilliant people die. Younger people have a bent towards things that kill them in tragic manners. I am trying to talk my 22 year old son out of buying a Harley, but he keeps reminding me that I raced motorcycles at that age. In my late 20s I sailed across oceans in very small boats and still shudder at the lack of safety equipment that I had. It is, and was not stupidity, but a youthful lack of common sense that comes from getting away with cheating death. Sometimes cheating doesnt work. I like to picture life like newly hatched sea turtles running for the sea. When you're young, there are all kinds of things that can pick you off. Even once you're in the sea you're still randomly picked off.
We that have survived for more than a few decades can look down on those that didn't and even try to make up reasons why we made it and they didn't. I know I should have died several times and have come to the conclusion that I'm just one lucky bastard. So far.
