If you can have a anchor with roll bar then buy rocna and do not buy Vulcan. Because rocna have more big plate for the same weight.

Not exactly true. The 15 KG Rocna & Vulcan have almost identical fluke sizes & with the anchors larger that the Vulcan actually has the larger fluke area. It's interesting to note that where Rocna sells both anchors of the same size they both have the same rating. Rocna's guide for a 30' boat up to 7 tons indicates that the Vulcan 12 is the correct selection. This is reported to be adequate for 50 knots of wind, associated surge & poor holding.

Don't get me wrong, I think Steve's tests & videos are a great service to cruisers but 3-1 scope is the shortest scope you could ever hope to have hold. It's certainly valuable to know what anchors would hold best in an emergency deployment but a more typical 5 or 7-1 scope might be a more valuable test & could yield different results. The Rocna for instance may not reset well at 3-1 but might reset very well at 5-1. Here's the results of a Boat US anchor test although it also omits the newer Vulcan:

He didn’t test holding strength, he tested speed of initial set and speed of reset in the case of a load reversal. That was something nobody else was testing as far as I know.

Cal 2-29 here. 10 kg was the recommended size from Rocna, 20' 1/4 chain, 150' 5/8. No windlass so didn't upsize. Rigged the Rocna and a 45# CQR for H.Florence. wore paint off side of CQR sliding around but worked my butt off getting Rocna out of sandy mud. Personally I flew to Atlanta. Boat moved slightly but I loves my boat and my Rocna. 20' depth max.

Re: What is the weight of the anchor for a 30-foot yacht.

I think Dashew has a defendable concept about anchor size:
If the people at the marina say your anchor is too big, you are on the right track.

Dashew's 78 carries a 350# with three-eights chain. Acting as spokes-model, Dashew poses next to it... and it dwarfs him.

They designed their 78 with the master suite next to the chain locker so the off-watch could probably be wokened by a drag.

Word Of The Day == wokened.
