If You Could Choose Only One Anchor for Cruising Round the World

A similar survey was posted in 2007. I'd like to see if things have changed since then. Please help by voting for your choice.

The question is kind of bogus. If you are cruising around the world you will never have only one anchor.

Re: If you could choose only one anchor for cruising round the world?

Every single person that I've talked to at this boatyard (SF Bay area) uses a plow anchor with a pivot in the shank. They've all said that it's all I need. I'm still planning to get a claw anchor and a danforth style anchor as well. I can't afford a Rocna or a Manson so I'll have to go oldschool.
EDIT I've only talked to sailors, not power boaters. They seem to have more icemaker experience but less cruising experience.

Re: If you could choose only one anchor for cruising round the world?

It really doesn't matter much. Those of us who are out there cruising are using what we have. The anchor salesmen on this forum would have you believe that all boats not using what they are breathlessly selling have been lost on the rocks. This whole post is probably a troll....and I've fallen for it.

Same here mate. I had hoped that after the Rocna debacle the price would come down on this side of the pond. Nope not a bit of it. All that happened is the UK importer now sells Mansons as well, but at a better price.

10 kg Genuine Lewmar Delta made in China £118 ($190)
10 Kg probably genuine Rocna made in in china £274 ($442)
11 Kg Genuine Manson Supreme £203 ($327)

Since the Delta and the Rocna are made in the same country from the same metal why is the Rocna so expensive? The mesage to Rocna then is you still have some work to do sorting out your prices before we, your customers return to your product.

Re: If you could choose only one anchor for cruising round the world?

Normally I would have picked a Rocna but given the unanswered question and general attitude I decided that a Manson would fit in nicely.

As for those who remind us that a world cruiser would never use only one anchor - Duh, and your point is in regards to the question? Do you really think you need to tell that to anyone who is about to set sail on their world cruise?

Just assume that there is a fortress and luke or two already stowed and the question is about the primary anchor.

Regards, Ethan

PS I'm hoping that Rocna's marketing dept will take a look at this thread and perhaps ask how they could do better.

PPS My primary anchor is Rocna

Re: If you could choose only one anchor for cruising round the world?

Ok, we have a 35kg Ultra, a 40KG Rocna, a Fortress and a Delta and use them all! We alternate the Rocna and Ultra on our bow, use the Fortress in mud and the Delta as a stern anchor or as a kedge.

Our 80lb CQR is being used as a dinghy mooring - we have seen too many boats dragging theirs and have done so ourselves once too often. Our two fishermen anchors are adorning our lawn. they provide a great nautical look.

Re: If you could choose only one anchor for cruising round the world?

If I only could have one, and cost was not a significant issue, I'd have a custom built, oversized, and beefed up Bulwagga (since they aren't made anymore).

Wish the 17lb one I have from my previous boat was big enough for my present boat. It's a dandy stern and kedge anchor, though.
