They are always used for flag halyards, because the flag is on the loose side. In theory you can use one for any halyard, but why? It means twice as much rope and the loose side flaps around.

I'm thinking more of the smaller size dyneema loops that we are tending to see more often.

Maybe the racers on the forum would have suggestions!

Where are you seeing them.

Honestly, kind of a weird question (but only due its lack of scope or detail).

Usually I have a problem or a task, then find a tool or solution. You have a tool looking for a purpose. This is like putting the horse in back, and the cart in front.

Ahh, a prusic. Used lots of them for rigging, but not on boats. Wait. I've used one to form a foot loop for climbing on board from the water.

I use a prusik on my second "safety" line when going up the mast

Re: suggestions for use of continuous loops

A friend of mine has his traveler mounted on an arch that is a few inches above the dodger and spans its width.
The control line(s) for the car are of one length that has ~3ft of slack between the cam cleats at each end.
Simple to flip one end out, pull the other end in, and the slack lays on the top of the dodger.
It's a neat/tidy arrangement without several feet of line hanging off of the traveler ends.

Re: suggestions for use of continuous loops

I have used Dyneema ' loops', to connect blocks to structure. One situation at top of mast to connect 5 tonne WL block to masthead sheave for Ghoster . Many seasons on and no chafe. I think that a smooth ,rounded connection point is important . In this case , the sheave at masthead. Alternative was a shackle ,but it distorted !

Accompanied with shackles, carabiners or those fancy smooth doughnut ring things that redirect line. A really long one for a sailbag zipper, I have on on my stack-pac that’s a 34 ft long piece joined in a continuous loop.

This simply isn’t true.
It’s the same amount of line.
I tied both of my spinnaker halyards into continuous loops and couldn’t be happier. I never worry about either end going up the mast. There’s not much line to have to stow after deploying whatever.

suggestions for use of continuous loops

Here is one use of a polyamide or polyester sling (ca. 60 cm, continuous loop) for a fix point at the shroud. This non-permanent fix with the special clamp hitch is used for attaching a rescue lift made of dyneema line. I carry this as additional safety equipment when going on charter yachts:

https://www.skipperguide.de/mediawik...FDL13_2022.pdf

The last slide points to yet another use of a loop made of 3 mm dyneema line as personal rescue equipment.

This ^ If you (OP) do not have a specific problem to solve then make up some longish loops to use for prusic hitches. Wait a little while and a problem for this solution will present itself.

I often carry a couple on my bag when crewing for others. Also when hiking, camping, kayaking...

How else would you respectfully lower your flag if not for a loop of some kind.
Some furlers use a continuous lines, like a Hood roller furler.
