Roller Furling with rod fore-stay

Greetings!
I have a newly acquired C&C 32. I was fortunate to get a new Harken roller furling with the boat. Unfortunately its still in the box. The boat currently has rod rigging that is in great shape. My question is can I install the furling on the rod rigging or will I need to get a new cable fore-stay.
Thanks!

Rod is perfectly fine. I have a Harken mk4 on a rod forestay. Prior to that a Profurl on rod.

Looks like Harken sells a fitting that goes on the rod. Do you know how it attaches to the rod?

No. Call Harken or search YouTube.

It will fit only if it is possible to cut the rod to accommodate the roller between lower rod's end and the bow attachment point.

I don’t know how you’d get the bearings over the heads on the rod. Usually, the bearings are installed before the head is formed.

Good luck, fair winds and calm seas.

Consider joining the c&c listserv if you are not already. Great resource

Re: Roller Furling with rod fore-stay

According to the Mark IV manual it is necessary to cut the lower end of the forestay and swage the end of the rod for the Harken bottom fitting. Seems like something a good local rigger can do.

Re: Roller Furling with rod fore-stay

We had hydraulic furlers on a big rod rigged yacht. No issues whatsoever.

Cheers,
b.
