Identity of This Hand Pump

Anyone know the manufacturer of this? It’s old, doesn’t work very well and I’d like to replace it. However due to difficulty of matching the counter cut out etc. I’d like to replace it with an identical new one, if possible.

Hi, if it is a fynspray would it be worth it to put an overhaul kit through it ? Have to be cheaper and probably easier.

Re: Identity of This Hand Pump

If a Fynsray, there are likely repair parts available for it. If it's old, it probably incorporates a leather cup as the seal on the piston, and those wear out and stiffen with age. Replacing it is pretty simple on the Fynspray pumps I've had (not that specific model), and for some there are update kits where the leather is replaced by an O-ring... a big improvement.

So, you might have a look at your pump's innards!

Re: Identity of This Hand Pump

I have two Fynsprays just like this.

Defender Marine sells them but they do not have the rebuild kits for this model , although either Amazon or EBay had them.

I’ve never bought the rebuild kit.

To take them apart take the two screws out that attach the pump to the counter top.

Pull the pump up out of the hole. You migh have to go under your counter top and remove the hose that is attached to the barbed fitting at the bottom of the pump. In my case the hose with the hose clamp is too big to come up through the hole.

With the hose disconnected don’t start a siphon and sink you boat.

With the pump out get a pair of pliers or vice grips and grab onto the round tube that is below the part of the pump that sticks up above the counter top. This tube is threaded into the top of the pump.

Don’t crush the tube with the pliers or vice grips.

Unscrew the tube.

Looking at the innerds of the pump you will see a washer at the very bottom. In my case it was rubber, but on an old pump I believe it could be leather.

My solution to keep my pump running was to very carefully heat up this washer with a small lighter and then fold the edges of the washer down. (This will make sense when you take the pump apart.)

After a few minutes of bending the washer down and keeping the washer warm in your hands, re-assemble.

Your pump should work great.

Keep using it. If you don’t use it you’ll lose it.

Please post back if it works.

Re: Identity of This Hand Pump

I may try the overhaul kit when I get back, I’ve seen two, one with packing like is used on a prop shaft, which is what I have, and another kit that was all rubber parts.
Pump works, just your a manly man to get much water out of it. It’s hard to operate, loosening the packing nut has no effect, and I’ve not gone further than that.
It’s connected to the freshwater tank, and more than anything I guess it irritates me having something inoperable on the boat, cause I don’t see much use for it otherwise.

I had one years ago and they don’t work half bad if the seals are working.

That is definitely a New Zealand made, Fynspray pump. They last forever with very little maintenance, but should be used fairly regularly, or the leather washer dries out and cracks, lanolin helps for preventing this. Whitestar Products in NZ sell all the spare parts, as well as new pumps.

Re: Identity of This Hand Pump

you could try losening the packing nut and a little vegetable oil down the side of the "handle"
It will soften the washer if its leather

Fynspary is an European styling pumping model. It takes up little space and it has a comprehensive range of manual rotary pumps, impeller pumps, gear pumps, galley pumps, rocker pumps, sump pumps, engine oil change pumps, bilge pumps, swivel faucet pumps, flipper pumps, foot pumps and back pack spraying pumps.
