I'm building a slightly smaller version of a Sun Mar excel right now.

Sure, sure now you tell us...

I voted for #2 (we are talking heads) but my fwd head is a #3 but I couldn't vote again....

When I read the question via today's email all I could think of was "Hard." This as a result of my sudden deceleration trauma Friday. I missed the last rung of the ladder while on the hard overnight... 10 staples and a new stylized T scar to the back of my seemingly "hard head."

Sorry about that Doc. Hope you weren’t going to the head when you hit the hard with your head .

Seriously though … glad you’re OK. The possibility of falling off the ladder is just one the reasons I hate living on the hard.

Forward head is an ElectroScan, aft head uses a holding tank.

If you have a standard old Jabsco as I have, you may be waiting a long time for a breakdown. Simplest and most dependable head going and very easily rebuildable.

Re: Head Poll - what type do you have?

Two Jabsco macerator heads with direct discharge. A holding tank option for the aft head with gravity discharge.

No failures or disappointments over the past five seasons since all waste hoses and through hulls were replaced.

Re: Head Poll - what type do you have?

If I had more space, and a little more money, I'd probably be one of those voting for a composter. As it is I happily removed the usual head/holding tank in favor of a Thetford 5 gallon porta potty which fits the space of my old head. If you reserve it for #2 that 5 gallon tank can hold a lot, no smell, no leaks, easy (for me) to empty, no clogged lines, no thru-hulls. Now, I am cruising coastal islands in a boat with less interior volume than most 29s. I used to have a head with a ten gallon holding tank. I haven't missed it for a second, I'll never go back! The Thetford is a good choice and I saw Amazon has them for under $100 now. At that price I may just buy another to have on hand in case of something breaking or for the extra tank. But after 3 years and being used by kids, no problems to report.

Re: Head Poll - what type do you have?

I have the original Raritan head that still works O.K. It has the optional electric pumping mechanism Have a 50 gal holding tank with Y valve. Goes to tank or over board. Just replaced the macerator. At the dock I use the marina head and at sea the old bucket routine.

Re: Head Poll - what type do you have?

We put in a C-head last year. Pretty happy with it. No issue at all with smell. It replaced a Jabsco marine head that had a 10 gal holding tank. 10 gal is just not large enough. We were always prisoners to that thing.

My only concern with the composter was possible legality issues using it in the Ontario side of the Great Lakes. An email exchange with Mike OReilly pretty much convinced me it was a non-issue. The last 2 week trip we had up on the North Channel had us just bring it all back home for burial in my backyard. The urine was either dumped in land based toilets, or occasionally on shore, in the woods. My feeling was use it responsibly, and the gray area (or not so gray area) of the law there shouldn't be a real problem.

At that price if it breaks down throw it in the dumpster and buy a new one[emoji106]🏻

I’m actually surprised at the low number of Type II heads being reported here. Is this b/c they are more commonly found on larger boats with big power supplies?

I can't believe there are 26% type 1's. I'm never swimming again.
