Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

The US distributor for Engel has a deal going for the 40 qt fridge/freezer. I have been shopping for a while including Amazon and eBay and always found them listed in the $800 range or more. On sale for $640 and free shipping.

Not sure if this is one shot sale, if they are discontinuing the model or the prices will always be lower but regardless it's the best deal I've found yet.

https://www.engelcoolers.com/mr040f-u1.html

PS
No I am not connected with Engel and get no commission, kickback or even a discount on the cooler I ordered.

Try to verify address/phone numbers didn't - result were ambiguous.

Placed order - will let you know what happens.

Received email order confirmation - looks OK.

Strange. I did call and speak to someone and all sounded totally legit. Website checked out.

I googled the phone number and it also came back as a land line registered to Engel USA with the same address given on the web site.

How did you try to verify the address and phone number? This is what I got.

Re: Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

I googled Engel and found same web sites for Engel USA. Also, found Engel OZ. Checked international contact list their for Engel USA and found different numbers. Googled those numbers and they also pointed to Engel USA web site. Thus, ambiguous.

Confirmed that my card has been charged for the order. Pretty quick.

Am waiting for shipping notice and tracking number.

Not yet but a good friend has been using one for a year or so and loves it. Also, every review from any user I've read online has been very positive.

Re: Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

Seems to be a big sale across the product line.
The bigger, all metal 45 qt is only about $40 more

I thought about that model but it weighs 66 lbs instead of 48 for the 40 qt. Also not sure how well the metal case will fare after a few years of salt environment.

Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

How cold do these things get, assuming inside of a boat that is 85F ambient, and you set it to max cold?
Also assume rarely opening it, maybe once a day for 1 minute, pretty full though

I have not measured mine for exact temperature but judging by the hardness of the ice cream I would say around 0 degrees Fahrenheit, no higher than 5 degrees I bet. Great product

Disclaimer. I don't yet have one so everything is based on reports from other users I've read online. But as we all know, if you read it online it must be true...

First these are real refer units with a compressor, not a Peltier cooler. If you set the thermostat down it works very well as a freezer. Specs say it will cool 90 degrees below ambient and I think it will.

If I recall from other reports, as a fridge in reasonable weather and normal use it might use 20-30 amp hours/day.

If it keeps ice cream, that I believe means below zero.

Re: Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

I have been using an Ingel 45 to great satisfaction for almost 10 years. My model will easily freeze at any outside air temperature encountered. Power demand at the full on 10 setting is 2.7 A. In the fridge mode you will not see half that demand. The run to rest cycle favors rest. Caution is required in fridge mode as any setting over 3 can cause freezing. New users often accidentally freeze their chill goods. After long use in Florida there is the slightest hint of minor corrosion in a very small area near one handle. This is a failure of the user to wipe down the unit and not a product fault.

My Engel will freeze two gallon of water overnight.

Yes these are also **very* * robust, designed to withstand washboard roads in the dusty outback, last for many many years.

After contents cooldown, improved efficiency and greatest temp diffs depend on

Added insulation
Active venting of condenser / hot electronics area
How often you open

Re: Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

Thanks for the heads up! I just ordered one. Always wanted one but was having a hard time with well over $800. I also signed up for their emails and got another $10 off so $619 with free shipping. Can't beat that.

As far as performance, there is a link to a chart near the bottom of the page. It does give cabinet temperature inside, amp draw, duty cycle % vs ambient temperature.
