Velox Plus prop antifoul paint

Has anyone tried the Velox Plus shaft/prop anti foul paint? In the past I've used the Pettit Barnacle Barrier with Ok results. But last Spring with only 2 days to get launch prep done I couldn't find any and used some hardware store zinc primer instead. I'll take a picture later and post, but near as I can tell the barnacles LOVED that zinc primer stuff.

I would like a better longer term answer to the prop/shaft growth and was considering the PropSpeed for next year. But that stuff looks a pain to apply so on a web search I found this Velox Plus stuff from PYI.

Velox | Velox Plus Antifouling Paint From PYI Inc.

Velox Plus must be pretty popular based on the feedback

As of this 185 views so there must be people interested in the answer, but apparently to date no has used or knows anyone who has used the Velox Plus.

There was a comment in a recent Practical Sailor about it being OK but pettit BB being a better value.

been using the BB for a few seasons with good results. results are based mostly on paint thickness.

No more growth on the prop than on the actual zincs

Well you somehow got better results from BB than I did, but I would say the times I've used it it worked enough for its' price.

Re: Velox Plus prop antifoul paint

We use the hell out of Velox in the yard, have finished dozens of props with it. Not as good as propspeed, but better than most. Extra bonus- a white prop is easier for the diver to clean well.

Can you quantify "not as good as propspeed" some? Is it 90%/80% etc as good? Velox isn't much less expensive than propspeed, but does seem easier to apply, so maybe that makes it worth it.

For that quantification, we should ask the local diver. I'm sure he'll be along shortly.

It is much, much easier to apply.

What I would love is a prop paint you can apply under water .

No lifting , use a hookah, clean and paint , good to go .

Anyone ?

Regards

Some folks have reported good results from applying surf board wax to props while underwater. I have used it on the bottom of my keel (where it sits on blocks on the cradle) with apparent improvement over unpainted, but that is not quite the same environment as a prop.

What the hell... it is cheap and easy to apply, so give it a go and let us know how it works for you!

I am using Velox now for the first time. It was recommended by the divers that clean my hull. I'm in southwest Florida.

How long has it been in use and how are the results?

Hey I just relaunched yesterday and the waxed prop is now under trial.
I will let you know in a few months if it works or is a dismal waste of time.
Cheers
