Any first hand experience with 1993 Volvo 740 gas with 290 Duoprop?

Are parts and service still available or should I look at this thing as a spare anchor?

I have an '86 Volvo in an I/O I carry. Parts are no issue. Volvo Penta Marine Engine Parts and Accessories Online Store - volvopentastore.com
Ebay has a number of people that sell used parts, too.
Most marine repair services can supply parts, too.
A Mercruiser would be better.

Thank you and yes, I agree Merc would be preferred but the subject boat has the 740/290 I/O.

So no issues with pumps, starters, risers, that kind of stuff?
Wiring is still serviceable?
Are parts any more costly than Merc?

In terms of a 9000 lb. 26 foot Tolly, would the Volvo 740 be a gas hog, even at 8-10 knots?
