I think we settled on a Gemini, change my mind

From what I gathered today, only boats allowed to use the city marina facilities are current or recently current customers.
Seems to change pretty often but getting stricter.

There's atleast one 105 in Baja Mexico I think for 65. They'd take 50 right now.

Anyway, get a better boat. But if not make sure to get a good deal. Should be easy at the moment.

Re: I think we settled on a Gemini, change my mind

Broken dishes? On my 34' car we don't even take the dishes out of the drying rack and stow them unless we're underway in more than 1 meter seas.

Downsides I see to liveaboard:

- It does not have a lot of storage. This can be customized, of course, but we struggled with just the three of us for two weeks finding room for us, food, scuba, etc.

- You have to treat it like a monohull in terms of stability while at anchor. Keep everything tied down or you will end up with a bunch of broken dishes like I did when a power boat goes by!
- Visibility from the cockpit during bad weather is challenging.
- I wouldn't want it in heavy seas. Coastal cruising and island hoping on pleasant days is absolutely fine but a gulf stream crossing or longer; it would not be my go to boat.[/QUOTE]

My wife insists on here Pewabic Pottery plates and Vintage Corell. Would love to save that weight!

I'm curious as to why the OP hasn't considered the PDQ32 - it seems to have many advantages over the Gemini.....

Wouldn’t fit into the sub $50k budget?

Re: I think we settled on a Gemini, change my mind

For a claustrophobic wife to try liveaboard the Gemini doesn't look to bad IMO. Just wait a few months until the deals show up.

Because if she loves it you will likely want to trade up in relatively short time for serious long distances.

I know, a few boats have made it across the pond safely, but that doesn't make the boat the first choice for ocean crossings.

Re: I think we settled on a Gemini, change my mind

I was in Deltaville Virginia today and noticed 3 Gemini and 3 PDQ 35s all on the hard looking like they were waiting for new homes. I did not investigate further, nor confirm these boats are currently listed for sale. But if someone was interested in comparing and shopping this would be a place to go.

Re: I think we settled on a Gemini, change my mind

Suggest looking at Endeavourcat 36.
The 15' beam fits in a single slip.
Built like a tank. Will not win a regatta.
Two engines makes tight maneuvering a non-issue, but comes at cost of more parts and maintenance.
Galley down, but open to the salon.
My 5'2" wife is always part of the conversation and serving food is easy.
I would never go for a galley up in anything less than 40' OAL.
Athwartship queen berth forward with hatches for air and view.

Re: I think we settled on a Gemini, change my mind

I have not read through all the posts, but I know someone who is a very experienced world cruiser, who said everyone he has met who has done a crossing with a gemini has had bulkheads break. I have spoken to one person who told me his bulkhead split. I would think twice just based on this second hand (now third-hand) word.
