Re: Selling my boat

Although the first survey I bought was a light once-over to have a third party talk me out of buying a boat that was going to be the endless time/money pit. He pointed out not-in-your-face deck...

Re: A sad day at the launch ramp

Going back to the original post, the first time I hired a marine surveyor was to get a second opinion on an oh-so-tempting older boat. His value was to point out limited life remaining on the desk....

Re: What training do you need to cruise?

I'm a little surprised we are on page two of replies and no one mentioned the curriculum:

a) sail your new boat in familiar waters to get comfortable how the boat works
b) do deliberate trips...

Re: Perspective on Chain Length Vs. Sailing Performance

Getting back to the original question, I would pose:
a) When sailing, do you notice a change when a person (3 to 4 * 45 lb) moves to the bow?
b) Not being familiar with the area, how do anchor...

Re: Thoughts from experienced skippers please

I would appreciate a comment from a professional Captain what legal/professional requirements apply for safety equipment on the proposed voyage. Would lack of EPIRB or liferaft (or something els)...

Re: Do You Have a Secret to Getting People to Take Your Money?

I agree with the several posts mentioning:
a) assemble all the parts/materials/simple drawings (not necessarily consumables, those tend to be personal preference)
b) present the work to them at...

Re: Gulf Coast 18 Fiberglass Repair and Other Refitt Tasks

Having done similar with my first boat, I would fully agree with coopec43, to make sure the time and money are worth the effort, especially compared to building new or buying a nicer starting point....
