Re: Is There an Airmar Alternative?
Thanks for this. Have had good experiences with NKE in the past. Does anyone know if they make their own transducers? |

Re: Is There an Airmar Alternative?
Our DST810 is also failing, also connected to a B&G H5000 system. Temperature is reading 107 deg F in 70 deg water. Contacted Airmar looking for assistance, they quickly responded with my unit is... |

Re: "Reality" Youtube Sailing Channels
We used to watch lots of sailing channels before we left and went cruising. We created our own https://youtube.com/c/sailingsweetruca As far as the "reality" of things, we found lots of... |

Re: Radar or AIS to kick me in the butt when in a stupor?
Maybe my reply was worded a bit strong. Not meant to cause alarm, pun intended ;-) We have also sailed lots of shorthanded miles at night without the gizmos. Surely waking up every 15 minutes and... |

Re: Radar or AIS to kick me in the butt when in a stupor?
It does not always receive a "bounce". The reason is waves. Radar can be ineffective in offshore conditions. It will surely pick up a cargo ship, but don't expect it to consistently pick up a 20ft... |

Re: Best drones for boats
We mostly fly a Mini 2, as it is easier to handle on board and carry on land. For higher winds, the heavier Mavic is a little better and easier to control. Landing on the boat takes some practice,... |

Re: Anchor Rode for Caribbean?
Your current setup should be just fine, no worries. We have 218ft of chain w/ the same 33kg Rocna on a 12 ton 46' sailboat. We never needed more in the Caribbean. We can't remember using more... |

Re: Sailing Across the Atlantic Ocean Solo
Boatman6 has got it right! You can do anything you set your mind to. When we crossed from St. Maarten to Horta we helped a friend with weather routing and sail trim via sat phone. It was his... |

Re: Looking for advice on unstepping 30ft mast.
You should be able to do this safely on that size mast. It would likely be helpful to enlist the help of a few (2-4) extra strong people to help guide and stabilize the rig at the base, and to... |

Re: Convert split back stay to single
An adjustable backstay is not in the category of racing only. It may be important to your boats sailing ability. We frequently use the adjustable backstay when sailing in cruising mode. ... |

Re: Behavior of race boat on a mooring
Our 46' Cruiser/Racer did just fine on mooring balls in those areas (we don't have a T bulb but it wouldn't matter) but do consider that your boat may move differently than others in the field. Use... |

Re: Heading upwind to furl
I think we can all agree on that. Regarding the sails, it is really good to hear a positive review on your sails after 7 years on the boat. Glad to hear they are still in excellent condition. ... |

Re: Hypalon leak repair
After trying some of the hypalon glues and having patches fall off, we have been using West G/5 epoxy adhesive for the last year and a half. Fingers crossed, not one has fallen off or leaked with it.... |

Re: Heading upwind to furl
The OP actually, twice. I am saying it also. I see lots of it. It makes me cringe. False. It will work every time to lower the apparent wind on the sail. |

Re: Heading upwind to furl
This thread is is really interesting. Most of the old salts with a high post count seem to advocate furling upwind. Most of the people with fewer posts advocate for furling downwind. ... |

Re: B&G geofenced? Doesn’t work outside USA?
We can confirm that is False. Our B&G Zues3 and ZG100 work just fine outside the USA (Carib, EU, South America, you can see our route on our website). We bought it at Defender 3 years ago. |

Re: Help me whittle down my anchors
We went from 3 anchors to 2. 1 oversized rocna. 1 fortress. We have only once used the fortress as a stern anchor in 10000 miles, and that was just for practice and "fun." |

Re: Which boat would you get for 1-2 year RTW cruise on a $900k budget?
Our original plan was 2 years as well. We think it is do-able, pre-vid. That was blown out of the water for us as covid hit 6 months in. We have spent much more time in places, we have enjoyed that... |
