Re: 60 foot Catamaran for Couple?

DC9Loser

Can’t believe you are having such a hard time getting a straight answer. Actually, its sad, but this has become how the internet works.

My 2 cents go for the bigger boat. You stated...

Re: Info on Leopard 46 reefing at helm.

I thought I would give an update to single line reefing. I just went through great expense to learn only reef 1 can be used in this manor with the stock boom end. Depending on how your sail flakes...

Re: Jet propulsion

It's a little early but new technology might make it possible and looks to be more efficient than current drive leg and prop setup.

Re: Info on Leopard 46 reefing at helm.

I don't have single line reefing. I do need to go forward to hook the luff as well. The pics I posted show how they are run, but do require you to go forward to hook the luff.

My thoughts are...

Re: Sailrite - Yes or No

Check out Ruby Rose video on YouTube. They do a good job comparing Sailrite with another brand and the pros and cons of each. https://youtu.be/q3MsdGjtQOk

Re: To Bow Sprit or not to Bow Sprit

I don't know if you saw how Impi douses the chute. The video I posted at 11:29 or there about shows his punch release which de-powers instantly. The clip is here. https://youtu.be/ZcXok79EeGI

Re: To Bow Sprit or not to Bow Sprit

You should check out Impi's setup. No sprit and seems to be just fine.

Re: Swinging on a mooring buoy - how to use bridle?

I don't like the setup on the 450. We run the lines from the bow cleats on each side. I charter 450s so this is ok, but chafe would be a problem long term on both lines and hull.

The other...

Re: Best use for the cockpit draining locker?

I have put a drain plug in the drink storage box on a 450. It helps keep ice a little longer, but not by much.

I am waiting to hear if someone has successfully insulated the box.

Re: Marine Beanbags on Tramp

I did a charter in Thailand a couple years back on a 50 ft cat. It had 4 bean bags with lanyards. The beds were horrible and those bean bags were the only thing I could sleep on. They were used...

Re: Performance of Lagoon 560 For Ocean Passage

See the sail area details on both 450 and the 560 from the Lagoon website below. None of the numbers on the 560 are double to compensate for being twice the weight. There are some optional sails...

Re: Performance of Lagoon 560 For Ocean Passage

This is just a guess I have never sailed the 56. The 450 should be faster, its half the weight and the 56 doesn't carry double the sail area. Based on the stats the 56 should sail better than the...

Re: Wat's the Performance of the Lagoon 52 under Sail?

SeaMonkey,

Fair comment. I was thinking in terms of longer water line more sail area faster boat. Totally ignored weight. Went an looked at the sail area and weight and 450 is a ringer...

Re: Wat's the Performance of the Lagoon 52 under Sail?

Alexxx,

I chartered a 6 stateroom 52 last summer in the BVI. I had high hopes for it, but the Lagoon 450 out sailed it. My brother was on a 450 owners version, granted less people and gear,...
