Re: 3/4” Star board under motor mounts

Seems like if it can "cold flow" simply from not storing correctly that it would also be subject to cold flow under the compressive loads from the engine mounts.

The alternative, non-G10 sheet...

Re: Why is this schooner so cheap?

Beyond the ferro issue, I note that the vessel really has no functional cockpit... no where to lounge about in comfort on deck, at sea or on her mooring. The interior seems very cluttered and...

Re: Hypalon Dinghy Repair

The 5200 will work, but the downside is the very slow cure time. You would need to leave the dinghy uninflated for around a week to be confident of success, and if you are actively cruising that can...

Re: Looked at two boats - help me decide

A few comments:

1500 hours on a well maintained engine is not a worry. If you continue to do the maintenance you should get at least 5000 hours before major issues arise.

Having both wind vane...

Re: Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse

^^^^

I keep hearing the term "refloating" as used above. The ship appears to already be floating, so what do they mean? One assumes that there is significant hull damage from the allision, but she...

So then, what do you call a small parachute deployed on a bridle from the bow as an aid to heaving to... as recommended by the Pardeys?

They claimed (IIRC) that such would keep the bow up and take...

Sorta like a ratchet block in a dinghy mainsheet tackle.

Re: Sea Anchors, most complicated simple thing ever

^^^^^
It might be enough to keep the bow pointed into the wind and reduce rolling... the effect the OP seems to desire. Not enough to stop drift, but if sea room is adequate, that issn't important...

Re: Question about seal for Johnson/Yanmar 10-24509-01 raw water pump

If your shaft is simply scored you can use a "Speedi-Sleeve" to restore it to usable condition. I've had one in a raw water pump for several years and it seems to be more resistant to scoring than...

Pricy, but even better made than the originals.

Re: Custom Deck Cover?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "deck cover", for it isn't a term known to me. Is it an awning that goes over the whole boat with standing room below it, or something else?

Perhaps a photo of...

Re: Hylas 46 polars

I'm still confused here! The Hylas 46 is a cruising oriented monohull. I don't see what your thoughts about catamaran performance have to do with the OP.

So, how does this relate to the OP's query (if even true!)?

Re: Running a two stroke from a large static tank? How to deal with mix?

Ahaa! This (admittedly not really controlled) demonstration lends credence to my previously expressed doubts about separation.

When you consider that petrol is itself a mixture of several organic...

Re: Hylas 46 polars

I believe that many such polars are generated from theory, not actual performance measurements. They should be taken with a whole truckful of salt!

Re: Running a two stroke from a large static tank? How to deal with mix?

Do you have any authoritative info that says the mix will separate whilst sitting? I don't know what would actually cause such an action.

But rather than elaborate tankage mods to accommodate the...

Re: Wheel cover with pedestal

If all you want is to protect the instrument pod, why not make/have made a much smaller cover, just for it? There is no need to protect the binnacle or wheel from the sun. I've never understood why...

Re: Mantus Dinghy Light: USCG Violation??

My feeling as well! The combined light will be interpreted as a sailing vessel. This discrepancy only means that an approaching vessel will sometimes be incorrectly made a give way actor rather than...
