Re: Dry Bilge system opinions

I just checked the Seaflo Dry Bilge reviews on Amazon, they’re mediocre at best.

Re: Coast Goard hovercraft hits unlit anchored sailboat with no radar reflector.

This boat has apparently been there for a number of years…no rigging or mast, owner not around…sadly just another one of many.

Re: Amsteel Blue soft shackles 7/64

Google search is your friend for this. I input “soft shackle uses” for lots of examples.

Re: Where do you buy your line?

Maple Leaf Ropes in Ontario, Canada has great product lines, great prices and fast response. I have no affiliation with them, just a satisfied customer.

Re: Sailing Vancouver to Nanaimo

Run down to your local marine store and pick up a copy of Ports and Passes. Good tide and current tables as well as detail on all passes etc that you will encounter. Also download AyeTides to your...

Unless it’s Wonder Bread (Bimbo bread in some parts). That stuff never goes off.

Re: Logistics - I almost put this in “Brain Teasers”. Ha ha

Re: Contributing to CF has become unbearable

I almost always use the web based version on my iPad or iPhone. Never any pop up ads and do not recall ever blocking any. Knocking on wood in case I’ve now jinxed myself. 🤔

Re: Stuck Value, Ford Lehman 120 - a bit dire.

No, no, no, no. Please, no.
Either crimping the line or plugging it is just setting yourself up for an expensive HP fuel pump failure. Fuel is non-compressible. Whatever is being pushed to the...

Re: Replace glassed in chainplates

Just did that with a beautiful set made out of silicon bronze by Port Townsend Foundry. I fastened them through the existing stainless ones. Bulletproof and pretty easy to do. Just use sharp bits,...

Re: Did not refill oil in MSB Reverse Gear

x2. Running it until it dies likely removes any hope of repair. And letting it die may well happen at the worst possible moment. Are you willing to take that risk? With your boat? With other boats?

Re: Sealing Threaded Diesel Pipe Connections

You don’t need a line restriction. Any time you’re pulling to a point that is higher than the source you will have a negative pressure on the suction side. For example a column of water weighs about...

Re: Sealing Threaded Diesel Pipe Connections

Agreed, that is correct. You typically don’t need lube of any kind on plastic. Just a sealant if desired.

Re: Sealing Threaded Diesel Pipe Connections

Also never wrap Teflon or other tape to the very end of the threads. Start one thread up and you will never have bits of the tape end up in the system.

Re: Union Polaris 36 and Tayana 37

I’ve considered that but you would still have to cut out the baffle(s) and ensure that the inside is smooth enough. I’m cutting our out to help ensure it’s only done once.

We’ve just finished removing the teak and recording the decks. Did it ourselves so no idea what cost would be by a professional. Depends on who/where you go. Taiwanese built boats of...
