Jimmy Buffet (For the record I love the guy)

Is it just me (probably) but is playing Jimmy Buffet while on the hard in the yard the same as playing Stairway to Heaven at the local GTR center?

Or any beach bar anywhere in the world but especially in FL. I highly respect the guy but would respect him even more if he could somehow ban the playing of Margaritaville in a public place forever!

.... no.

If it's late afternoon and you fly your pirate or cocktail flag(s) and the stuffed parrot is fastened to a rail, and you crank the Buffett... you might get some rolled eyes. But if the same people aren't over there within 15 minutes, with a drink (or mooching one of yours), and singing ALL THE WORDS... they're not sailors worth knowing.

(spoken as not a real big Jimmy fan, but the chords are easy)

It's OK to play Jimmy Buffet (or other non nautical themed country music) on the hard.

Is it OK if my 8" grinder sings along?

Interesting. I never knew that Stairway to Heaven was associated with a particular high performance Japanese auto.

Man, I hear you - that's about the only Buffet album I don't own. My favorite is "Pink Crustacean with a White Sport Coat" - everybody in college thought I'd lost my mind when I came home with that and a year later they could not get enough of it (unfortunately neither could the radio stations)

That's short for Guitar Center where a lot of famous rockers often hang out. I met B.B. King in there many years back - a really nice guy who was only too happy to talk to a kid into music.

Well for what it’s worth I’m a Parrothead. As I type sitting in the cockpit Jimmy is singing Mother Mother Ocean.... via SiriusXM Radio Margaritaville.
In fact last month I was a Fruitcake on the radio on RM. My short show introduced 4 of my favorite Buffett tunes and had me wax on about why.
If you have bandwidth you can listen to the recorded show via this link.

I once had the pleasure of partying with him until dawn at Stanley's Welcome Bar in Tortola back in 1981. And believe it or not, I remembered it the following day.

Big fan of his earlier stuff, if he ever did an acoustic tour I would be in the front row.

He is an excellent songwriter and I love his storytelling songs... Railroad Lady, He Went to Paris, West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gown, Remittance Man - I can see the characters, like listening to Old Time Radio, so great.

The singalong stuff- not for me.

Re: Jimmy Buffet (For the record I love the guy)

Not being snobbish here but it is Buffett with 2 T's. I started the fan club in Toronto in 2002 and am still a huge fan. Met him once in St. Barts at the airport loading his surfboards in his Cessna Caravan float plane, living up to the songs. The other time I spent about 15 minutes backstage talking with him and Michael Utley before the 2005 concert in Toronto. Both are true gentlemen.
I'm a boat broker in Georgian Bay, Ontario and always recommend any of my buyers unfamiliar with him to check him and his body of work out. I've never met a boater, sail or power, who doesn't at least have one of Jimmy BuffeTT's albums (CD's).
And FTR, I don't care if I never hear Margaritaville again.
Cheers.

Was in Bequia once in a bar with my family. We were the only ones there. He walked in with another guy and played for an hour. Never introduced himself. Nobody said anything. Saw him row a little dinghy out to a small sailboat. Love his stuff.
