Re: Advice on ground tackle

I have a 43' FP Orana, so similar to yours. Same windlass, lofran cayman 1000w. Tackle 200' 3/8 chain, 35kg Cobra anchor.

I've been at anchor for 250 days/year for the last six years (1500 days...

Re: Leopard/Lagoon/FP/other -

Re: Data on improved performance from transom extensions?

OP---- So you got a good setup. Sail your F31 when you want to go sailing, use your L39 when you want to go boating.

Before cruising, I had a high performance dinghy, capable of planing even...

Re: Data on improved performance from transom extensions?

Even if the L400 is around 3000 lb lighter than the L39, it's about 1.5 feet wider. Similar RM. So you cannot really have more sail up safely.

But on any of the lagoon/FP/Lep, you can probably put...

Re: Cost of transom extensions for 39’ catamaran?

Agree. As you wrote the boats, or crew rather, in the ARC are sail differently. Some are racing and some probably only there for getting across and for the social. Anyhow, well sailed, I think the...

Re: Cost of transom extensions for 39’ catamaran?

A friend in a Lavezzi won class b in the ARC 2017. Smallest boat in class b, lowest engine hours, still finished first over water. Beating other boats over water like Seawind 1160, outremer 45 and...

Re: Data on improved performance from transom extensions?

Do you have good sails. Laminate sails and good downwind sails will probably improve performance more. Easier and cheaper.
I assume you already have folding props. If not, by far the best...

Good boatyard for fiberglass repair, Florida

At launch the travel lift did a 5 feet long 4 inches wide damage to the port side hull. Delamination of the outer skin, slightly compressed core, no damage to the inner skin, no structural damage....

Re: Are all multi hulls so noisy and unpredictable?

I have a FP Orana, similar to yours. I agree with your issues with sailing this type of cat. I mono however heels at wind pressure and roll downwind in seas. To me makes them uncomfortable and less...

Re: FLEXOFOLD props on a multi

Changed from fixed 2-blade to flexifold 2-blade on my FP Orana. Better in every aspect including motoring as the blades are bigger. Best upgrade I done on the boat.

Selling my boat ---- Looking for some inputs

In about a month I'm going to sell my catamaran, a Fountaine Pajot Orana, 43 feet, 2008. I have some different alternatives how to go about this and it would be great to get some inputs.

A search...

Re: Lagoon cats now on discount...

FP repaired the boats with osmosis when they had the problem. Mine was out of warranty, 7 years, second owner, and FP still paid the cost around $22k to fix it.
Hopefully Lagoon will too even this...

Re: Outside opinions on cats. What would you choose?

The leopard 44. For what is already stated, the Bali is not a good choice for any level of cruising. Personally I would pick the Hella as it sails better. But that is me, not saying it's the better...

Re: Anyone sail a Bene Excess cat?

I hope nobody will buy the E11 expecting a performance boat.

I hope nobody looks at the published polars and expect to get that level of performance. Not even close.

But if looking for a boat...

Re: Anyone sail a Bene Excess cat?

I didn't know that older Lagoons were built too weak, not as strong as the newer.
What part of the boat needs to be stronger to carry a code zero compared to loads when sailing with no reef at the...

Re: Propeller thread

i went with 2 blade FOF. about 60% of the price of 3 blade.
Could not justify the price of the 3 blade, but i dont motor that much.
Best upgrade I done on my boat. FP Orana.

Re: Anyone sail a Bene Excess cat?

One raceboat i had built, an int505, the builder said the reason his boats are the lightest is that they are the smallest, less sqm laminate. Its a one design, the hull, but the rest of the rules...

Re: Anyone sail a Bene Excess cat?

The L380 has a DLR of 152, the E11 185.
Much better performance indication than some polars which often has a questionable source, or owner claims.

Re: Anyone sail a Bene Excess cat?

When I saw the announcement I was hoping for the Excess to be for Lagoon, like Catana/Bali. But for what I can see, the Excess is mainly a Lagoon with a different layout.
The spec diifference...

Re: 3/8 ISO chain on 10mm ISO gypsy

There is the DIN which has a 28mm pitch and the ISO which has 30mm. I got the 30mm.

Thanks

3/8 ISO chain on 10mm ISO gypsy

I have a Lofrans Caymann with a gypsy marked with P30. Its for a 10mm chain and when I measure my chain its stacks up to 30mm pitch.

I need to replace the chain and that chain is not available in...

Re: Thoughts: 20+ y/o Privilege vs. new-ish FP/Leopard/Lagoon?

I went through a similar situation, but dismissed the older boats fairly early mainly due to layout. Catamaran design is developing at quite a pace.

In my opinion what breaks are either things...

Re: New Excess Catamaran Brand

I think the L380 is faster than both the 11 and 12.
For sure the 12, and probably the 11 too.

Re: Boatyard Storage for 3 months from St. Lucia to St. Martin
