Re: Test #1
From his first two Thu 19MAY PredictWind updates, sounds like he is having quite an exhilarating time.

Well out to sea now on the tracker cruising nicely at 5kts in his little boat.
Bon voyage and a safe trip and land fall in Bermuda.

That changed pretty quickly as things will when sailing especially when you are sailing single handed, the wind cranks up, and you can't sleep normally
He is in fog as of last report.
It was dead calm here last night as well. Fog is rolling in now maybe 3 miles in from the Ocean and 20 miles North VA Beach, but the breeze has picked up just now 0700 so maybe he is getting that also
We are supposed to have SSE 15-20 mph today as will he according to the offshore forecast. That should help.

Re Raymarine depthsounders I think flashing 'last' is the norm for Raymarine when 'off soundings'.

Re: Test #1
Pushing the Pen. I just saw 2 Jeanneau 37 both in 50K area. One appears very fresh 2001, new electronics sails canvas. It was a 2 cabin with workshop/ pantry. Not sure if it has any other options. It’s in Syracuse New York. I’ve a similar boat just newer model the headroom is good up to the front birth. The shower in the two cabin is great usually has the extra 130 litre water tank aft.

Re: Test #1
I am grateful for ArmySailor / SV Spellbound posting his updates on PredictWind.
https://forecast.predictwind.com/tra...SV_Spellbound/
It has been educational and interesting. His latest post "Stuck" has him tracking exactly opposite where he intended to be going, and he notes his strategic route planning skills need improvement. That is a strong mental note for me to not skimp on that part of the offshore passage planning process.
Whoever is passing along feedback from CF to ArmySailor, please thank him for my wife and I.

Re: Test #1
Looks like wind, waves, and current have forced him back North then NW.
I'm hoping maybe he will decide on the Delaware Bay as a destination (or one further North) where he can get some much needed sleep. (which ever is easiest)
Being tired single handing can quickly cause other problems because you make mistakes easily.
He has already gained lots of knowledge.
If he goes up the bay, it would be a total circumnav of Delmarva which come to think of it is a pretty good test run for anyone from this area single handing on a small boat. (or with crew)

Re: Test #1
Given his current position and his comments about no particular reason to keep going to Bermuda, heading for Montauk/Block Island would get him to an anchorage as quickly as going to Cape May. Great spot to continue day-sailing north to Maine or Nova Scotia.

Re: Test #1
Yeah he toughed it out, got a little sleep, and headed back toward his destination.
We actually had some Northerly winds yesterday after 20 knots SW in the am.
His weather should change here in a day or so.
We had temps in the 90's the past couple days (odd for May), but a system is coming in which will drop them to the high 60's.
If he gets this system, he could get wind NE-E so it may be good that he is well North.
St George's Bermuda is calling for winds with a Northerly component Monday - Thursday as we are Monday - Wednesday

Re: Test #1
Wow, he’s not stopping in Bermuda but circling the island and coming back to the east coast.
