Spent all night with SAR informing them with details of Anahita and their poor communication using only Garmin SMS and language barrier. Floating on top of ice floe for nearly 12 hours at night in Bellot Str. is not a fun. Eventually were picked by helicopter of Coast Guard icebreaker.

never did the nwp but two winter trips in the bearing was enough for me .
Its very true in those harsh conditions things can go sideways extremely fast .
As I stated beforeyou I'm very glad there was no loss of life .

Aluminum boats too have been stuck in the Arctic and survived.
However, many boats of all materials have been destroyed too. Much depends on luck in how the ice moves into the boat.

Inwas there on a cruise ship when it happened. The ice was extremely thick and moving quickly. Even experienced commercial skippers were having trouble. We were lucky not to get trapped ourselves but a large cruise ship did. This is a dangerous place. You go there at your own risk.

As an online climate change debate grows longer, the probability that denier arguments will descend into attacks on Al Gore approaches one.

Here's a hint. Al Gore could be short, evil and fond of child sacrifice. He could emit more CO2 snoring at night than Christopher Monckton does all year. And his movie could be even more inaccurate than the Great Global Warming Swindle. But this wouldn't change a thing. What matters is not Al Gore's character but science. And, in the case of climate change, it's awfully compelling.
