Known unknowns

Yep, that's right, there are things that i know that i don't know. Which is why I'm here. I've lurked around for a long time, but I'm tired of people never asking the right things. Who cares which anchor? The one that stays put! Mono or multi? Yes please. Fast or slow? whatever floats your boat... But seriously, aside from all the petty ego guff, this is a pretty clever crew, and there's a lot to see here. Me? I'm landlocked, but grew up around small boats, lots of time at sea. Head down bum up right now living the dream so that one day i might live the dream (the other one). I've got a pretty good handle on who i am and what i like but haven't ruled out that my priorities might change by the time i get on the water in a meaningful way. I promise i won't be one of those pain in the arse non boat owners that pretends he knows everything, and heaps scorn on old salts who pretty much do know everything!

Re: Known unknowns

Welcome. I'm pretty sure that Boatman61 knows a lot of stuff. Me? I know just enough to know that I don't know enough.

Thanks! Strangely enough, it was the adventures of boatman61 that convinced me to finally put pen to paper (so to speak). Or, more accurately, all the weather related discussion on that insane recent soap opera... I quite like the weather, and I think it has quite a bit to do with sailing in general.

Re: Known unknowns

more important than what you know is that you recognize things that you don't know, need to understand that you may know just enough to be dangerous (I like to live on the edge a little)

Then vote BottomFeeder Party in 2016. When I am king the wind will always be 15 kts for constant broad reaching (my number one pasttime), unless you have a big heavy boat (why would ya?) in which case winds will normally be 25 kts. It will only rain at night. No more anchor dragging. Lee shores will be a thing of the past. Plus I'll ban the sun's harmful rays but keep the beneficial ones, and everyone who votes BottomFeeder gets a free CrabSatPhone. Happy days are here again!

Thoreau said it, To know that you know what you know and don't know what you don't know is knowledge

By coming aboard in a humble way Domenica, you prove your intelligence as well as get a number of salts interested in your well being. Good on you.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you posting here. I know enough to know I don't know it all and can always learn something new even by those who are new to the forum.
