Hi all! just Cruised Catalina island pic intense

Hi everyone, new to the board .We live in the Las Vegas desert with a classic mac 25 but my Bro also has a cruising boat (CSY 44) in San Diego. I've already seen a couple of dock neighbors on the board as well.
We just got back from a week long cruise of Catalina isl. Our plan was to cruise and circumnavigate Catalina Island on the CSY 44. We departed San Diego at 5pm on 06-04-08 and made an overnight passage

Screenshot of our GPS track

it was uneventful except that we had to motor the entire way due to the winds. since there were four of us the watches were no problem and we all got plenty of sleep. We were woken by the watcman or err watchgirl to Dolphins off the Starboard bow. we pulled into Avalon at 10 am Friday morning and picked up a mooring for the weekend first come first serve at $32 per night. the harbor patrol will meet you and assign a mooring spot, collect the fee and drop a dye tab directly in your head. (discharge fine is $500 and a one year expulsion from the island.

Flo Cooking Breakfast, shes also expecting a baby girl in September

Building sand castles with the lil one

Nimfy and Flo washing their hair.

Avalon Hillside, note the "Wrigley Mansion" up top (white house upper left)

Nimfy and the countryside

Nimfy and I on the exact spot we were married

Flo's cousin from San Francisco met us in Avalon and spent a couple of days of cruising. we left Avalon on Sunday morning and headed towards Two Harbors
Nimfy and the "SPIRIT of DANA POINT"

it was a five hour trip with beautiful weather.

We rounded the northern part of the island and headed to Cat harbor

The memorial where the sailors were killed in the helicopter crash a few weeks ago. We felt obligated to pay our respect

we dropped hook in cat harbor in 75' with 2 to 1 scope. the 66lb Bruce held quite well

.

we had a good time playing on the beach and said fairwell to Claire (flo's cousin) and left cat harbor Tuesday morning

we had descent wind out of the NW on the trip back to San Diego averaging 5.4 knots of speed
The Lil one. only two years old and already logged over 3000 nautical miles is always harnessed while underway

Sorry for the long post. we have more pics but i think i already pic'd you to the max.

we had a great time drinking pina colada's on the beach and being amongst friends and family. the only problem we had on this trip was the roller furl went south on us so we had to use the staysail.

Hi bj. I still have the new house in Vegas, but this time of year it's too hot for me. The option was Colorado or Newport Beach. Since the last two summers were Colorado, this summer is New Porsche Beach!

Snickers opens doors wherever we go. I've known and worked with a lot of famous people, but this little pup is treated more like royalty when we go out than just about any person I've ever been with.

Thanks for asking.

Welcome aboard. Catalina was a favorite destination for us when we lived in San Diego County.

Our favorite stops were Goat Harbor and Emerald Bay. Mostly because of nearby diving.

A Different Perspective

Perhaps these photos from my last "cruise" to Catalina in my Grumman Tiger will enhance bj6364's post for those who aren't familiar with Catalina.

The first two pics are Avalon. The next 2 are along the south shore. Next is the Isthmus or Two Harbors. After that, I believe a Boy Scout camp on the north shore west of Two Harbors and a nice little beach on the north shore.

Here you go... I'm working on my own bucket list. I bought this bird to fly from SoCal to Alaska and to the Bahamas. Done. Two and a half years and 300 hrs later I've just sold her so I can buy a sailboat and hopefully complete a circumnavigation that was interrupted many years ago.

I'm in the market for a steel hull, approximately 15-18,000 lbs, 34-38 ft, if anybody knows of one for sale.
