Greetings From Newbie

Hello All,

Long time listener, first time caller here. I've been directed to this forum a number of times over the years on my numerous crazy searches, and figured it was time to sign up.

While I've been kind of a power boater for some time, my dad was an avid sailor and he taught me to be one. As a family we cruised New England starting with a wonderful Sabre 28 which quickly was replaced with the larger Tartan 37. She was a CB which was great for races and day sails in our shallow Great South Bay as well as other races around LI and NE cruises.

I've sailed as far north as Marblehead and as far south as Antigua, racing and delivering sailboats. My current boat is a 24 outboard speedboat, but the itch to get a sailboat has been getting more persistent lately. Dad died a year and half ago and with his passing I find myself more and more mindful of the passion for sailing he shared with me and what a special gift that is.

As the family got away from cruising we did more racing and while I do enjoy getting the most from a boat in a variety of conditions, I often found myself daydreaming of cruising while we were racing. Dad and I felt the same way.

Cruisers Forum was in the results of my latest search looking for the best adhesive to use in repair of my PVC inflatable. My repair kit came with a one-part adhesive but I have read that 2-part is the way to go, I'd be willing to pony up a bit for that, but it still leaves many choices and nothing is a clear standout yet in my research. More to read...

Looking forward to participating a bit here while tapping into the energy of a community focused on cruising.

Cheers,
Mike

Welcome to CruisersForum!

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.

Welcome aboard Mike. Hope you find the return to sailing and the memories of your Dad as rewarding as I have.
Meanwhile, for your PVC repair... I've had good luck with using type P (high pressure) PVC pipe glue* and primer for repairing PVC dinghies. Much easier to find than "marine quality" specialist glues, less expensive and with a long shelf life. I was taught this "hack" by a pro dinghy repair friend, and have thanked him many times!
