Ampopetta
The first word I ever wrote? I am Bob Goldsteen the son of E.J Goldsteen(Jim) the owner of Mose & Hoye Pty. Ltd. 87 Fennell st Parramatta, who manufactured Blue birds, Ampopettas, Corsairs when I was in high school, all along time ago as I'm now 66 and retired.I have seen alot said about Ampopettas, I was in the factory every day making my own things, I realise I know many things about them. I have pictures, design model and plans, which I will share in due corse. My father had 2, the proto with the stumpy 30' mast, the next one, I think the 4th, had a 35' hollow timber with luff rope, the keel was 1" forward(I think), the mast step was reversable giving 1 1/2" adjustment, anyhow "she" would sail to windward better that you could steer her. Much design work went into this yacht, Alan Paynes' lines coupled with Dads engineering of everything, down to the cleats, all made inhouse. Mum Dad and I sailed mostly between Sydney and Broken bay, lots of weekends messing about in boats which petered out once I had a family, Dad got too "fat and old", as he said, and finally sold her when I was about 40. I guess I had enough boating, starting when I was 6, to last me as I have only been sailing maybe 10 times in the last 30 years. I like the building and the engineering but feel guilty just wasting time sailing around, you can only drink and eat so much then end up bored, that's what you get for being the son of an engineer! We never did racing seriously but other Ampopettas went to hobart, we just couldn't see the point, sorry, I still feel the same.
Our first yacht was Piptide #128 which dad bought in 1956 from John Smythe QC who was the commadore of the RPAYC, this started it all with Christmas's in Refuge bay, 6 or more yachts lashed together, was great fun. JS bought Jasnar, was 4" lower in the water when the holidays started. Folks knew how to have fun in those days being the post war boom time.

Re: Ampopetta
I made a few boo boos, Riptide #130 last seen in Mosman bay, Sydney, many years ago. Riptide was built in 1948 for a world trip but never left NSW.

Re: Ampopetta
This is bob Goldsteen, I used to be ozepool when I had the business, now 79 and still thinking about all that boat stuff. I never did buy or build a boat, I guess growing up with boats was enough. I will find more pics, even one with Shirley Bassey

Re: Ampopetta
Ampopetta ended up painted white as the varnish could not be maintained any longer, plywood is unabled to be sanded back, also marina berths are unkind to finishes as the same side is offered up to the Australian sun everyday. Riptide was Dads first yacht after hiring Halvorsens for holidays and owning Adella, motor boats offer just eating, mainly drinking while sailing keeps everyone busy.

Re: Ampopetta
Welcome to CruisersForum!
It looks like your boat and location info are swapped in your bio.
