Re: Acetone
What about auto parts stores in Victoria? Id think you stand a good chance there. Surprisingly Google does provide results for auto parts in the Seychelles

Re: Acetone
Jenny, there might be some in the city. Maybe even in a Chinese store. I don't think nail polish remover has had acetone in it since the 1950's.
Is it possible that a different solvent would do? For what project did you want it? (For example, sometimes you can clean something with methylated spirits (alcohol) adequately, that normally you'd clean with acetone. But it wouldn't work to thin lacquer.

Re: Acetone
Ann, you sure?
I ask as I used of use it to remove dried super glue when I was building model airplanes, and that wasn’t over maybe 10 to 15 years ago?

Sorry, but it currently has acetone in it. It's the primary ingredient, unless you buy special non-acetone nail polish remover. I use it all the time in a pinch for a solvent if I don't have any on hand and the girlfriend is nearby.

Correct. Laquer thinner is a blend of toluene, acetone and methyl alcohol.
Surprised there is so much confusing here about solvents. Or maybe I'm confused because I used too many solvents.

Re: Acetone
When I first joined the Army we used Acetone for cleaning everything in aviation.
Then I’d guess early 80’s it was determined that Acetone was a Carcinogen so we switched to MEK, which of course it didn’t take too long to determine it was worse for you than Acetone.
By the time I left they had switched to MIK, which I’m pretty sure is even worse than MEK.
But then we used to use Freon to wash off the first Apache helicopters cause water caused so many problems with the electronics.

Re: Acetone
Wow I just posted about allergy protection and acetone is near the top of the list for nasties best avoided all together or used with max protection gloves and mask .
Please note if you are using it to clean your skin or tools when fibre glassing then use plain old white vinegar instead , it takes a little longer to get clean but a lot safer also a dam sight cheaper too .
