I was a bartender, starting at age 10 or so, mixing drinks for grandmothers, aunts, etc. "fix me an old fashioned, will ya dahlin", my grandmother would say. I was often the only "man" around, so regardless of age, I handled "mens" roles.

1) cooking anything directly over flame
2) mixing drinks
3) taking trash out
4) changing light bulbs
5) anything that related to tools - even a screwdriver.

I barely drink now, surrounded by local breweries and top shelf scotch given as gifts(local politician, I drink a little more on the boat. I drink a little more when I'm in cuba. Simple fact is it doesn't suit me, so I'm saved the need for discipline and moderation with booze.

About 18 years in the transportation industry. Everything from truck driver to managing a sort facility, and at times both in the same day.

Now I am studying to be a Wizard....as it is my true calling.

Cool and interesting thread

I graduated high school and went to college for Land Surveying.
27 years as a Land Surveyor,and some Hydrographic stuff.
There was a stint I did while taking a break from Surveying to apply my artist airbrushing talents and open my open my own custom motorcycle paint shop.Both my folks had passed away at Christmas that year,I needed some time to myself,and my art.
Worked out great,did it for 5 years roughly in 2 countries.
One of my shops had 5 acres attached,so I had a great idea to plow it and farm it.I grew sunflowers.
At that point my hobby grew to big and I worked 24/7 between the shop and field.
Got burned out and decided to just go back to Surveying.
Surveyed far north places and the deserts I wanted to see/experience.
Met wife in Phoenix.
Married.
Got laid off when everything went south ( literally).
My new bride was traveling each week state to state and that got old fast.
She had a stint in Fla. for a bunch of weeks,so I packed up the RV and headed here with the dogs.
Bought sailboat(well had about 6 since)
We learned to sail and loved it.
Haven't looked back.
I'm now retired (at 44),and my Awsome wife works from the sailboat remotely.
Life is good.
So in short,my new job is this sailboat,and of course taking care of the pups..

I'm a Tax Collextor for the government

I've got quite a good business that employs 12 people. It makes some money and I pass most of it on to the government in Sales Tax, Company tax, GST, Income tax, Employee PAYG tax, Late fees and if I'm not careful, fines.

For the privilige, they let me keep a little bit - but only if I pay personal income tax on it.

I did the bartender thing while an undergrad at NY Maritime, but only for private parties. The pay was better, and coeds tend to do things at private parties they normally can't... err... won't do in a bar.

I'll have an occasional mixed drink (usually something with Rum in it) and I brew my own beer, but I'll drink other "good quality" beers. I probably average less than a six pack every month. Wine is ok, but I only drink it with dinner, generally speaking.

To round things out a little, but without going turning it into a curriculum vitae:

Aside from being a large animal veterinarian, I have been in the past crew on an Icelandic fishing trawler, a stint in the navy after high school, during college waitressing and bartending in clubs, modeling for life art classes, and lab tech.

Have two in common, lab tech and bartender. I don't have the legs for modeling and went the Merchant route for duties at sea.

Your Australian I was too so I sold up and started working for them last year they made it redundant but can't get rid off me till next year
