Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

Hello, I am retired and completing the fitting of my Pacific Seacraft 37 for blue water cruising. Probably leave for the South Pacific in early NH (northern hemisphere) spring 2016 either directly from San Francisco or from as far south as Ecuador depending on how things come together. Meanwhile, I am entering my boat in the local short-handed ocean racing scene here. Would be nice to be a little less short handed.

Smokester is an interesting screen name. Is it cause you're smoking hot? Or a chain smoker?

Hi Smokester! I just got my BKB at Marina Bay Yacht club @ Tradewinds. Do you sail out of Richmond?

Haha. The Smokester was my dog, a shepherd of unknown composition...The grumpiest dog ever but I still miss him.

flysci, eh? Given my background the name sounds intriguing. Care to share its origins?

Yes! My boat is parked in front of the School and I am a member. If you want practice on the 22's let me know. I love those things.

Sure. Before retiring, I was a scientist working with the fruit fly, Drosophila. Pretty straight forward but has a nice ring!
By the way I'll be back in Richmond in about a week, I have a condo there.

Interesting. I am a retired physicist still involved through consulting.

If you wish, PM me when you get close. I would love to hear of your adventures.

Well, there's must be a bunch of model system scientists that follow this thread. I worked with C. elegans - the tiny worm with all the neurons mapped out - anyway good luck to all the single sailors out here.

I ran into this guy up in British Columbia a few years ago. Pretty funny name for a single sailor guy.

This inspired me to put together a list of funny boat names for single and swinging boaters.

Dirty boat names for dirty boaters - All things boat

Enjoy! there's a few gems in there.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

So, here goes... I am a 45yo single sailing lady that recently bought my first boat, a PSC Flicka. She is small but mighty, like me :-). I am learning as much as I possibly can with my boat so that I can one day sail around the world with the right person. I am a bit of a mystery to most, because I can be a girly girl while at the same time have no problem getting up to my elbows in engine maintenance (I'm taking a 'diesel mechanic in a day' course next weekend). I like having a partner in crime, but I will NEVER play the role of damsel in distress. I love new adventures, but want to find a like minded man to share them with. Hopefully he's in here somewhere!

Hi Dragonfly. Welcome! I also have a Pacific Seacraft. They are wonderful boats and will take you far. If there is anything we can do to help your progress let us know.
