Re: Croc Infestation

Can't imagine how I would react if I saw one myself.

Re: Croc Infestation

I can't recall if this has already been posted on this thread but here is the story of two sailors marooned in the Kimberly (NW Australia) for 8 days after a croc sunk their dinghy.

Re: Croc Infestation

I have just read this post from start to finish - interesting!

We have sailed the northern coast of Australia and we have explored the Kimberly and north end by 4x4. Never have we taken saltwater crocs lightly. We have witnessed one destroying a crab pot and Mike was stalked by one when he was fishing for barramundi cod. He had to walk miles to get back to camp rather than jump across a 2 .5ft creek.

For Pete 7 - I was stocking up our perishables yesterday and croc tail in cryo- vacced pacs was available in the cooler section in one of our major supermarkets - Coles.

cheers Sue

Re: Croc Infestation

We lived in Darwin in the late 70's early 80's for 6 years. Crocks were respectful of people and unless you did something stupid like swim in the rivers and billabongs you were safe. We even had a couple of tasty dogs and never had any trouble and we were camping/fishing/crabbing almost every weekend in the dry and diving in Darwin Harbour or near Melville Is during the wet.

They were enough of a threat to keep a good eye out for them but that was it.

Now reading about the Kimberly's it seems not uncommon for them to get up a bit too close. Even mid sized crocks seem a bit game. The WA Govt say in the last 3 years the population has grown 300% no wonder they are spreading out and coming down south.

I liked them when they had respect.

Seems that the "crock huggers" and politicians have conspired to remove the chance of crocks respecting humans... perhaps rightfully so!

Is "crock hugging" one of those Gold Coast sports like dwarf throwing?
