Funny? Not.

Ever known people have anything to do with that place?

Full-on dystopia worse than any apocalyptic science fiction.

A prime example of a part of our society that will IMO one day rank right up near the Nazi's Holocaust, Stalin and genocide of indigenous peoples, as example of hellish crimes against humanity.

Or of course even worse could continue to be seen as just a normal part of the zeitgeist.

It’s not in use anymore. Just derelict.

Without a doubt passing by Rikers is a chilling experience, if only because of the massive size of it, complete with its own enormous power plant. It’s very depressing.

But every society going back thousands of years has prisons. Chalk it up to human nature. As to the faults and problems with our own criminal justice and incarceration institutions, not really anything we’re going to solve in this thread.

Poor poor bad men. The MAN is keeping you down again. Just say you’re sorry and we’ll let you go.

Since I have never been to prison, nor do I have any “friends” that have been to prison, I can not comment on the conditions. I have a job, I pay my bills, I have one wife, two kids that are mine. I don’t lie, cheat or steal for personal gain. I will probably never be in prison so I have little sympathy or understanding for those on Rikers Love Boat or any prison. Nor do I have time or the inclination to learn.

Of course, we could institute Hammurabi’s Law, that might reduce the prison population. But then again, I think we stopped following that due to some bleeding heart saying it was too harsh.

When driving in Mexico, I saw a road sign pointing to a local prison about a mile away.
The sign read,

"Los Immobilantes".

Prison has always been one of my nightmares. There is some number of innocents in prison, it may be only 1 in 1000, but it happens.
What I do believe occurs in those places is horrific.
I used to joke in the Army that there were three ribbons I didn’t want, Purple Heart, POW, and anything posthumously.

It’s called the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center. It is very much in active use full of prisoners and not a derelict.

For the longest time it had a full time captain until the CG relented and recognized it was in fact a prison and not a ship.

**Waaaay** higher than that, even for those executed.

Really horrifying the sentiments now in the mainstream here in the US, keeps going we'll just explicitly admit we mass murder the poor and minorities.

Fact that the oligarchy is now making huge profits off the system is probably all that'll hold that back from trending further.
