WhisperPower Generators Anyone ?

We have a Beneteau Oceanis 41 sailboat and we are looking for a compact generator diesel to run the A/C on anchor. (16,000 Btu Cruise Air)

We are ,looking at a Whisper Power Genverter Piccolo 5KW , 120V/60Hz

https://www.whisperpower.com/US/4/2/...le-speed).html

The idea is to install it in the locker at the Stern of the Boat , so it has to be compact.

Any ideas are welcome !

Those are at the top of my list too, after a fair bit of research. Haven't found anyone locally with one yet, would be interested to hear any experiences.

Very common in England, there was one in a narrow boat I used, worked great, they are preferable to the fisher panda among the narrow boaters.....

That Cruisair/Dometic 16k BTU lists the LRA as 62 amps which is beyond 5kW. Does it have an easy starter on it?

Generators will handle a large short duration surge.
My 3.5kw Nexgen easily starts both my 16 and my 6 K AC’s.

The over current protection varies per generator just like inverters. My RV generator wasn't capable of starting the second AC even though the generator was rated more than double the combined loads of both ACs.

I have a 5 year old 5.5 Nex Gen in an enclosure which runs my 16K AC and battery charger with no problems to date. It has a Kabota block and main office in Jackonville, Fl. Check them out.

Re: WhisperPower Generators Anyone ?

Has anyone experience specifically of the Piccolo, which is very different from the other models and most generators?

Re: WhisperPower Generators Anyone ?

I personally installed a nextgen 3.5kw genset this season. Light weight at 200lbs and works perfectly for 2 a/c units. Great unit with no electronic boards to shut system down if they go bad…… basic small Diesel engine. Company based out of Fla…… easy to install (relative ha)…. Did it myself.

Re: WhisperPower Generators Anyone ?

We installed a WhisperPower M-GV2 two years ago. This is identical to the Piccolo except for the housing. Ours is a 3.5 kW DC only system, because that fit our needs.

It has been 100% perfect. Not a single hiccup. Compact, quiet. Just works. Would go with WhisperPower again in a New York minute. Very elegantly designed.
